VIP1225 needs to be rebooted every couple of days because the screen picture becomes all static

My Motorola VIP1225  needs to be rebooted every couple of days because the screen picture becomes all static. Why? How can I fix this?

While watching a live TV show or DVRed show the content on the screen will start to become interrupted with static and within a few minutes all that one can see is complete static. I then have to reboot the VIP1225 DVR box by unplugging the power source, waiting about 10 seconds, plug it back in, and then wait for the box to go through its reboot cycle. I go through this cycle about every two days.

Why? How can I fix this? Do I need to get a new DVR box from AT&T?

Can you download and install SomeJoe's tool at the link below?

http://www.uverserealtime.com/

Once you install the tool, please post screenshots of the following tabs: IP/ProfileError Table, & Bitloading.

We can take a look at the screenshots to see if there appears that you might be an issue with your system.

Sean_S - I think there were previous posts of similar problems with HDMI interface. Are you connected HDMI? Can you try component?

OK. I have the screen shots saved but I can't figure out how to share them. When I select "Edit/Insert Image" in the rich text editing box it asks me for a URL and doesn't present me with an upload option.

I am connected via HDMI. If this were the issue, then I don't think that the TV would be static free after I reboot. Maybe I am wrong. Can you point me to the post you referenced? I couldn't find my symptoms when I searched for term "HDMI."

Here is one - http://forums.att.com/t5/Receivers-Battery-Backup/Uverse-1225-STB-picture-goes-to-static-eventually-...

Looks like component did not solve it. Google U-verse HDMI static.

To post screen shots click icon that looks like a tree in the reply header/toolbar

Dang, an FTTP customer.  Okay, well, your signal quality to the RG should be pretty good.

How is your DVR connected to the RG?  Cat 5e or Coax?

Make sure all of your connections are tight,  Wall to STB is a big one, if it gets the least little bit loose it can cause issues. If you have a long enough CAT 5 cable you can run it from the RG to the STB and see if that corrects the issue.

An interruption in the coax connection would cause the TV to show the "signal lost" message from the U-Verse receiver, with the explanations of what to check to attempt to restore the signal.

Pure static has to be an HDMI issue. Definitely switch over to Component and see what results you get.

What do you mean by "switch over to Component?"

Disconect the HDMI cable between the STB and the TV.  Connect the component video outputs (all three) to a set of component video inputs on your TV.  You will also either need to connect stereo audio cables, or handle audio some other way.  Switch your TV from viewing on the HDMI input to viewing on the Component input.

You may also need to change the Aspect Ratio setting under System Options to the native resolution for your TV (HDMI does this automatically).
