Is There Still A Thing As Pay Television

Obviously, digital, cable, and satellite are a form of pay television. My question is this: is there still any old time pay television like we saw in the late 1950's and 1960's that carried the Giants and Dodgers? Or like Sportstime from 1984 to 1985 that carried the Cardinals, Reds, and Royals?
What other pay television was out there that was similar to the examples that I gave?

Well every once in a while there's a ppv that UFC or WWE puts on.
Resident Xbox ACE. Ask me almost anything about U-Verse on the Xbox.

I was not referring to a single event that pay per view would have. I meant more of a thing where you are paying for a whole series of events such as Dodgers and Giants baseball in the late 1950's or Sportstime which showed a lot of Cardinal, Royals, and Reds games. Essentially you payed for all of the games in those instances rather than for each event separately like you do for the pay per views you gave as an example.

Things like that do still exist: DirecTV's Sunday Ticket, for example, but they are not the norm.

I think the simple answer is no (to the OP's question). All the Major Sports League have contracts now with the FoxSports/CSN's, etc channels. So no secondary Pay TV option would be allowed to carry the games.
DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket (MLB Extra Innings.. NHL... NBA..) ... those packages are designed to let you watch the games not in your area.
I think all the Pay TV options have grown into what is out there now. Major Channel Packages (and/or Sports Packages) rolled up into options ($$$) on your Cable/Satellite/IPTV provider.

Hi:
Long time reader of this site, first time replier!
I had to respond to the question about the old days of Pay TV, old being the late 70's - early 80's.
In Detroit we had ON-TV, which channel 20 showed on a scrambler starting at 8:00PM, and going all night. They showed movies, various sporting events (Tigers, Red Wings) and the Hard R-Rated version of 70's pornographic films. Fun, fun, fun. Trying to see a picture
thru the scrambled screen taxed even the most dedicated minds! I could watch at my sister and brother-in-law's because he found a way to descramble the picture.
Anyways, by the early to mid 80's, cable took over and it was bye-bye ON-TV. But it was good while it lasted.
