Uverse cable box (receiver) CONTINUALLY loses audio/video sync when turned off/back on!

I had Uverse installed in my house a few months ago. I have 4 televisions. (3) are wireless and one is wired.

2 of the wireless receivers and the one wired receiver perform perfectly, however, one wireless receiver does not!

Every single time I power off my television & cable box, when I power back on the audio is out of sync with the video!

I have to then reboot the box in order for it to sync up correctly.

This happens EVERY time .... what is going on and how can I fix this?

One thing to maybe note, this one TV/box is in my office ... which is also where the router is located.

Also, somewhat unrelated ... when I am done watching TV on ANY of the (4) setups, should I be powering off the cable box or leave it running? I've heard mixed opinions and would like a concrete answer.

One more thing,  I was told by the AT&T Tech that in 2013 there was going to be a new router that would allow up to 8 (or maybe more) wireless boxes instead of only (3). Is this upgrade available yet? And is anyone eligible to simply upgrade?

Thanks for the help!!!

I believe the current limit for wireless receivers is (2) per account. If you have 3 installed, I don't believe that's going to work correctly.

At this point, I would recommend that you convert one of your wireless receivers to wired. The Ethernet port is already on the back of those receivers, so you would need to run an Ethernet cable from the RG to one of the wireless receivers, preferably the one that is giving you problems.

Thanks for the reply!

This receiver affected is connected to the TV via HDMI, and then to the router via ethernet ?

I'm *pretty sure* there are 3 wireless and one wired.

They all work and fuction completely fine, it's just the sync issue with this one TV. Once I reboot the box, it syncs perfectly.

So I don't believe it is any type of setup issue, There are no problems other than the audio-video sync, which is resolved when rebooting. I'm just getting sick of rebooting the receiver every single time I turn on the TV!

OK, wait. What exactly happens when you say that the "audio-video sync is lost"? To me, this means that you're receiving picture and sound on the TV, but the audio and video are no longer together.

I think what you might mean is that you lose signal to the TV, i.e. you get no picture and no audio at all. Is this correct?

Re: Uverse cable box (receiver) CONTINUALLY loses audio/video sync when turned off/back on!

Exactly, I will turn on the TV and the sound is 1-2 seconds ahead of the video picture ... they're not synchronized. If I reboot the receiver, they are then synchronized perfectly. But I shouldn't have to do this every time I turn on the TV. I leave the cable boxes all powered on and simply turn off the televsion.

One weird thing I notice is that sometimes when I turn on my TVs, I have to hit "OK" on the cable remote in order for the feed to go Live. Other times, I can simply turn on the TV and it will go straight to Live TV. With all of my setups, I leave the cable boxes powered on and only turn on/off the television itself. But it seems to affect only certain setups (ie; my main living room setup will go straight to live TV every time it's turned on, yet my office and bedroom will require I hit "OK" on the cable remote"

paul06901 - the receiver appears to be faulty.

although, if it really is the third wireless, that could be the problem,

a simple thing you could try is an analog sound connection. some tvs have that as an option or you would have to switch to component. you can try composite, just as test.

This I can explain.  When your STB goes into standby mode, it continues to broadcast the blue screen with "Hit OK" on it.  So, if your TV comes on and your STB is in standby mode, this is what you get.

"But I leave my STB's on all the time," you say.  Well, you might try, but:

  • STB's drop into standby mode automatically after 8 hours of inactivity (i.e. no remote commands, etc.)
  • AT&T's remotes are programmed to send toggle power to both the TV & the STB when you press the power button.  So if the TV is off and the STB is on when you press the remote power button, after the press you'll have a TV on and an STB in standby.

Also note that an STB tuned to a live channel (even if the TV is off) is consuming a stream.  Since you have limited streams coming into your home, putting the STB in standby when not in use is a good way to free up that stream.
