Absolutely great day here today. Probably made it to the mid-70's but has been raining since last night. Just a nice soaking rain which we desparately needed.

Time for our annual HIT on Old Man Winter, Uni!  This year we should follow through!

What IS up with the acorns?  Tons falling here, only from Live Oaks, and they're extremely small and green.  Can't sleep or rest with the constant banging on the roof, really bad this year!

The crepe myrtles are still in bloom with all green leaves, normally by this time, they've shed all flowers and leaves would be turning yellow and orange.

We've been in the 90's and AC still running every day and night.  Mosquitoes still need a home somewhere else...

Expecting rain this weekend, we could use it.   Local news people talking about not being able to wear boots and winter clothes--if you want to dress for another season, move out of this city!

Yep Spd, about that time to hire a collar to take ole' man winter out! :smileywink:

It's my understanding the oaks have a cyclic pattern where they'll produce a bumper crop of acorns every 3-5 years and maybe this is one of those years. Early drop of lots of tiny green undeveloped acorns is probably occurring from the oaks being drought stressed. In order to conserve water/energy the trees will drop their acorns early. I know you guys have had more rain this past year than previous drought years but would bet it takes the trees a long time to recover. And maybe you did have long hot stretches this year with no rain? Believe many trees are stressed from the record high temps we've had across the country this year.

Beautiful bright sunny fall day here with temps going up to the high 60's. Sure can tell fall is kicking in because the leaves are fastly turning colors with shorter daylight hours. The Sugar Maples are some of the first trees to turn and perhaps the most colorful with their reds, oranges and yellows. Even the Poison Ivy and the Virginia Creeper vine leaves are beautiful with so many colors. :smileyhappy:

What a great weekend we had in DFW. Where I live got a little over 3 1/2" of much needed rain in a nice steady rain all day long Saturday.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Wish we had some of that rain up here, we are down over 7 inches for the year and an inch and a half last month alone. The trees are quickly changing colors and leaves have begun falling, by the end of the month most of the tree will be bare.:smileysad:  Raking leaves falls just behind my least favorite chore....shoveling snow!!  :smileymad:

It was great.  Our weather this week is a roller coaster, supposed to be in the 90's tomorrow and the high on Sunday in the low 60's.  Shorts and coats in the same week. gotta love it.

They are now talking about highs in the 50's on Saturday and low's in the 40's Sunday morning with a high of only 61.  Brrrr. Not sure I'm ready for the cold stuff to come in yet.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Holy cow.  It's been almost two months since last post here.

We're freezing.  It got down to 19.5 degrees last night.  Even Alfie did not want to stay out very long this morning.  Not only was it cold but the wind was blowing a pretty fair breeze.  Enought to make one uncomfortable.  But no snow yet.  In fact ....precip. at all for almost  weeks.  The drought of 2012 continues to plague us.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

WOW!  Mark one up for the TV weather guy.  Had to get up at 6 AM to take Alfie outside.  Seems he forgot to do all of his jobs last night.  The wind is blowing like you-know-what....the snow is coming down like crazy and it is 30 degrees.  So we're in the midst of a full blown blizzard here.  The snow is pretty wet of course and my little buddy likes to roll in it.  So it was a job toweling him off when we came indoors.  But I turned on the gas logs and we did the drying in front of the fireplace.  The forecast for us is for 3 to 4 inches of snow.  Up in the northern counties of Missouri and on up into Iowa they mentioned the possibility of a foot of it.  The folks on our farm up there and others will gladly put up with the inconvenience just to get this delicious moisture.  Snow is the best.  It melts slowly and soaks in.  Hard rain tends to run off and drain into the water ways so it is not so good for trying to recover from severe drought.

In my school days this kind of weather would not have phased us.  It would have been classes as usual and we WALKED to school.....except for the kids who lived out on the farms.  Now days....if the buses don't roll the whole system is shut down and that seems to be every time we get a few flakes.  So I suppose all the children in this little town will get an early start on their Christmas break.

Why that lying, no good Groundhog!  I swear I oughta beat the fur off of him!  Grrr.

The local weather casters had been "non-chalanting": this weekend's snow forecast but now it looks like Indianapolis could get 6-12 inches by the time all is done, Sunday night!  This could be the worst of the season.  Work sent out an alert to take our laptops home for Monday (but I already Telework that day, anyway )

Keep that crap up north.  Bad enough the cold front came thru N. Texas two days early, we don't need no snow.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

As I said in the WOTT thread, we had the heaviest snowfall of the season in late March!  Yecch!  8-10" or so.  Mostly gone now, 2" on the ground thanks to compaction, melting and plain ol' evaporating.  I have now seen ~10" snows in March and October (1989).  What's next?  A blizzard in June?  Global Warming -Hmpf!

Even if it is global warming we can no more control it than we can control the moon.  It's a cyclic pattern that happens quite frequently.  I'm sure the dinosaurs weren't driving around in Hummers and such.
