To bridge or not to bridge , the Uverse 3801 HGV ?

Hello ,
My situation is this ...I have a Ganz NVR (network video recorder) that i log into from remote locations to view my property .I can no longer get it to operate correctly after switching to Uverse. Although i went into the settings and port fowarded the ports that the ganz system requires i still cant get remote login to work and the port fowarding tests on the NVR continuosly fail . Im considering bridging the modem ( 3801HGV) and setting up a Cisco Linksys in order to regain uPnP port fowarding. Does this sound like the right way to go ? I had a friend at work tell me that I should try DMZ mode as oppsed to just bridging the modem . Not really sure which way to configure it ? Bridge or DMZ will it really matter being that i just really want the router for the uPnP port fowarding capability .
thank you -

Thx for your reply Texasguy, the link you provided me was really pertaining to someone trying to figure out if they needed individual port fowarding per camera. With the NVR it handles all that from within . What i need to know is the best way to set up a 3rd party router with the Uverse 3801 HGV? Bridging it and then setting up the router or DMZ mode and router. All I need is for the router to take full control and provide me with uPnP port fowarding. The 3801 should be acting just as a modem only.
