Can't reach one website
10-10-2012 08:40:35 AM
I cannot reach a certain website from AT&T internet service. I have U-verse at home and AT&T business at work. I cannot access from either location and we have reports that others with AT&T internet cannot reach it either. I am located in Indianapolis, if that matters.
The site is http://yourchurch.com.
I can access when using other intetnet services. This just started happening in the last week or so.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Shawn

I have the same problem with my website www.foreverinlove.net. I can access it from my phone and my clients can access it, but no computer on my network can get in. I was on the phone all morning with At & t and they don't have a clue. Can anyone help???

I have attempted to access both of these website and they respond with a 502 (bad gateway) error. This indicates something server side as this error means that one server received in invalid response from another server. This is generally not a problem with the actual internet connection.
I tried multiple browsers and networks (AT&T and non AT&T) and was not able to load the sites.
How/where are these sites hosted?

I was just able to open both. We have Brighthouse as out service at my current location. The yourchurch.com one is hosted at Rackspace. I think there is a larger issue as we have our CMS provider looking into the issue too.
Their message says:
We are currently researching an issue that is causing a subset of sites to go offline on AT&T networks.

We are still having issues with this. Is there a way to check a blacklist or something to see if it is content? My site is a church site that posted audio from a forum about the political culture. I don't think that should be blacklisted, but you never no...

I didn't think to try these myself when I was on the U-verse network. I can get to both from this location.
I do note that these two have the same public IP address. It could be a routing configuration issue.

Depends, but likely. Can you do a traceroute and post the results?

That's a traceroute from a network server. We need to get a traceroute from your PC. Open a command window (by hitting Windows/R and enter "CMD" and press Enter). Then enter "Tracert yourchurch.com." in the command window and press Enter.
Copy and paste that result for comparison.

The first hop on AT&T usually doesn't generate the ICMP error response. Nor does the second. Did you let the Traceroute run at least 4 or 5 hops before giving up on it?

Cool. Must have been a temporary routing glitch. Glad it's working for you now.

We're getting reports from AT&T users that they cannot access our church web site: www.northaven.org. This problem started last night 12/11/12.
Folks who use other ISPs have no problem accessing the site (we did a poll using Facebook and received over 20 responses from non-AT&T users who can access the site).
We've checked with the hosting company PowerDNN.com - everything is fine at their end - the site is up and functioning. We have contacted AT&T service and have gotten nowhere. This is a critical situation for us - all business of the church is at a halt because the staff cannot connect to their webmail through the site. Are there any diagnostics that can be run to determine why AT&T is blocking this site from it's users?

When I initially got Uverse I couldn't receive emails from our church. I contacted AT&T and Yahoo and they told me what the issue was and what the church had to do. I don't know if this will work for you because yours is not an email issue. I just posted this to give you another resource to try.

nkinchurch - It's possible the IP address has previously been associated with something unseemly. ![]()

In many cases, AT&T is not "blocking" the website, it is that the DNS record for the site is no longer valid, so AT&T is not able to determine a valid IP address for the site. Please check your DNS registration and make sure you haven't expired, as well as making sure the DNS registration is still valid. I used to administer a web site, and if the domain registration was not renewed by the expiration date, the AT&T DNS servers would stop resolving, while DNS servers for almost every other ISP would still resolve. It was not AT&T's fault that they didn't serve expired DNS information, but it looked like it was an AT&T issue because only AT&T subscribers had problems accessing the site. You might want to check on that for your site.

if you are outside of the southern hemisphere you will be able to
same with all of my websites and hundreds of others
I don't think at&t cares at all about it
I had customers call me to tell me my sites were down - this is costing me money and at&t could care less!

I am sorry to hear your website isn't working properly. Do you have a business account with AT&T?
