Disclaimer: I am reporting base on what I have seen base on my UVERSE setup
Not Directly, you do recieve a dynamicly addigned public address at your gateway
generally divices I have worked with that are similar to your asus tend to assume that the WAN interface has the public facing address which then inturns register that address to the DDNS service
At one time I used NO-IP. this is an agent you could run and register based on your outgiong Address and it periodically sync's to keep the address valid. I used to use it on a WRT54gl and one of the linux firmware for VPN access to assit familty members with computer problems (sorry, I don't remember which one)

The public address you need is the "WAN" or "Broadband" address on the RG. If you check the status screen of the RG, it will give you your external address. There arealso some websites that will give you the address they see when you access them. You do not need to apply for, or pay for, and additional PUblic arrdess just to use DDNS..

If you have a DDNS capable router, you can tell the RG to put it in the DMZPlus mode, and it will be given your external/Public IP address by DHCP. Then it can do its DDNS thing.
