Tourists- No good :smileysad:

For people like me, living up North, come down South maybe 2 to 3 weeks every 90 to 180 days, this do cost more than the $2 daily plan.:smileyfrustrated:

Adidaskid808,

I hope we get grandfathered in. Let's wait and see.

If this goes into effect they need to price themselves better than the competition. For $45 Straight Talk offers unlimited data on top of calls and texts. $50 seems high for 2gb.
I also hope grandfathering happens.

We shall likely be able to keep out current plans. I personally like all the current plan options. I don't really see a reason for change except offering more heavy duty data plans for smartphone users.

I'm perfectly happy as a GoPhone customer as of now.

With the increasing popularity of smartphones, I would not be surprised if AT&T would be pricing rate plans high enough that even more people would use smartphones just for the robust contacts entry and syncing with desktops mail and data; easier scheduling, note taking, better photos, social networking, and fitness apps.

AT&T's increasing focus on prepaid smartphones should eventually pay off, at the expense of dyed in the wool plain phone users who would go elsewhere for true pay per use rate plans. The trend is such that eventually, there would be MVNO specialized in one type of phone: MVNO for mature Americans, MVNO for voice/text only users, MVNOs and carriers for smartphone users. Specialization improves efficiency and efficiency eventually leads to lower prices. We are already seeing smartphones priced below $100 competing with feature phone prices. Eventually there will be only a handful of the strongest smartphone makers, much like desktops and laptops today. Device support would take much less effort than if there are two dozens manufacturers making two dozen models of phones per manufacturer. It must have been a support nightmare for the major carriers who carry so many kinds of phones.

Also the pricing plans today make the situation even worse. Why not just charge $x dollars per kilobit-minute? Why not charge by time of use to balance network loads? Sounds familiar? Look at your utility bills.

Well I've read that Aio Wireless (that's what I read they plan to call it) will be offering the iPhone for $649 unsubsidized, so it a possibility.

That's really a small fee compared to what you would be saving honestly. You would be able to recuperate that rather quickly depending on the plan you select.

That is why there are other options available to the consumer, you must choose the plan that works best for you.

If someone who stays in the U.S wants to start a postpaid plan, but would only stay in the continent for lets say 2 months, wouldn't make sense to sign a contract, now would it? Same concept. :smileytongue: There are options out there, but the consumer must look for them and choose what's best for them
