Re: Why Do GoPhone Users Get Treated Like Crap??

I have used several APNs and none allow data using my AT&T Android phone on GoPhone's network, which is 3G only. It doesn't even allow EDGE under any circumstance. I was told by AT&T customer service that their network automatically chooses the highest speed tower, so they don't allow 4G phones to receive any data on GoPhone's 3G network. I bought my Pantech Pocket 4G phone from a private party because it was an AT&T branded phone that didn't need to be unlocked to use AT&T, and when I bought Plan with a Sim card at the AT&T store, I was told that the phone would only be able to receive voice and text. I bought a $5 data plan anyway and it would not work with any APN. I put the Sim in my unlocked T-Mobile Andriod phone and it received EDGE data as well as voice and text, and it didn't count the data that I used against my 50MB limit. I like my Pantech phone and would like to use it and can't return it. I can't afford to buy a third phone to satisfy GoPhone. Someone in customer told me he thought they were going to change this rule in January because of competition. If you can tell me what to change in my APN to be able to use my 4G phone on GoPhone's 3G network, I would appreciate it very much. I have also heard of several people who say they were using a 4G phone on the GoPhone network, but none of them have an Android 4G phone, and I tried their APN and still don't get any data, not even EDGE.

Indeed, awful customer service as well for Go-Phone users. I mean, what can be worse than paying your monthly refill and then AT&T saying your phone wasn't refilled because of a low bank account balance when you have thousands in your checking and they charged you the $25 anyway!
That's what happens when you let a few private companies control one nation's internet, cable and phone companies. They don't give a hoot about customer service and just care about maximizing profit, which means making it extremely hard to talk to a representative (cheaper to have less of them) and raising your rates despite the worse service.
Thank god the government didn't let them buy T-Mobile.

I was a AT&T contract customer since 1996 and change to GoPhone 6 months ago. My phone at the time was a Motorola ATRIX HD and, while under contract, worked great. Now I'm on the GoPhone $65 unlimited plan but cannot access the data plan when not at a HOTSPOT. AT&T states they are working on it but no change in six months. In Technology Years that's like 20 years. So it would seem that if you are under AT&T contract, us have 4g access to everything. If you are a GoPhone user your usage is only 3g and no data if you have a 4g phone.

I was an AT&T customer for most of my life, first with a land line and my first cellphone was Cingular (AT&T). I am now retired, living on Social Security. Landlines became so expensive, I switched to cellphone only when the towers were close enough to give good service in my home. The only ones close enough are T-Mobile and AT&T. I subscribed to T-Mobile prepaid for $50 a month for unlimited voice, text, and 50 MB per month of data. I got a used G1 Android phone from a neighbor. When my 50 MB was used up it reverted to the EDGE network. This worked fine for me, except when I travel, I found that T-Mobile doesn't have towers in West Virginia and has only towers in Pennsylvania in major cities. This is where our kids live and I need to get my email when we are there, so I would have to travel 20 miles every time I retrieved my email at a McDonalds using my computer, if I didn't have data on mt cellphone. With T-Mobile, when I have to roam on AT&T towers, I only get voice and text (no email). So, when GoPhone started their $50 unlimited voice, text and with smartphones you have to pay extra for data. Since I use very little data this was good for me. The AT&T store told me that my G1 T-Mobile phone used different frequencies for data. I would have to get a GSM phone that was designed for AT&T to get data on GoPhone. I bought a very nice Pantech Pocket that was made especially for AT&T with the AT&T name on the phone. I bought it on Craigs List and checked with the AT&T Store before I purchased it to make sure I could use it on GoPhone. When I went back to the Store I was informed this time by a different clerk that it would not receive data on GoPhone. They put $5 on it but it wouldn't get data. Customer Service worked for an hour trying to get it to work. They told me that the company was going to change the policy to allow data to work on 4G phones after the first of the year. On Dec. 31, I was traveling in PA and added a $5 data package to see if it would work, and to my surprise, it worked. I used it for 2 weeks in January in PA, WV, and Ohio, and on my return trip back to Florida until my 50 MB was used up. I was so happy I posted on another thread my praises for AT&T, but when I was planning another trip for June I added another $50 MB package and it didn't work. I was told by the AT&T Store and also Customer Service that it would never work and that they could not ever make it work, even though I told them that it worked for 2 weeks. I tried all of the APN's from the forums and none worked. I guess AT&T doesn't have the advanced technology that T-Mobile has or maybe as smart people working for them to be able to make it work. Or maybe they think that my 50 MB per month is too much for their frail system. After all I paid for the 50 MB. I don't feel that I'm asking too much. It has been reported that AT&T released a statement that they are starting a new prepaid service on June 15, that will be $50 unlimited voice, text, and 2 GB data for smartphones which will be called "All In One". But no one knows about it at AT&T and it didn't say if 4G phones would work. I hope this is true. I will wait until then before switching to someone else.
