Sharing Unlimited Data Between 2 iPhone's

Hi everyone! I'm new here, so I apologize if I did something wrong! I really want an iPhone 4s, so I want to cancel my current phone contract; a Pantech Link 2. I want to then start a new contract with the 4s on a family plan. Family plan had 550 minutes and unlimited texting. Currently, my mother and I (her son) are on the family plan. My mother has an iPhone 4 with the old unlimited data plan. I was wondering that once I get my 4s I can share with her unlimited data.

If I cannot do that, I have researched it and the cheapest I can get my monthly bill to be for my line is 30 dollars; 9.99 for line 2 and 20 for 300 MB of data. Is there any way I could get this cheaper? I would like to pay below 30 dollars monthly. Thanks!

No, the unlimited data plan is no more. Once you change the phone, you will lose the unlimited data plan. As for getting the bill lower, only if you qualify for a discount through your employer.

Changing phones does not cause someone to lose the grandfathered unlimited data plan.

However, you cannot share your mother's data plan. Each phone has its own data plan unless you're on a family share plan, in which case she WOULD lose unlimited data.

Other than an employee or student discount, there is no lower cost option than what you already listed. And you'll need to be very careful not to go over on your data or you'll be paying a lot more than $30/month.

Max69, actually changing out a phone on a upgrade, will cause a person to lose the grandfathered plan. It is when you just swap Sims to another handset, you will not.

Sorry, but you're wrong. I've upgraded to 7 different smartphones on two lines of my plan since they dropped the unlimited data plan, and both lines still have it. As long as you don't drop it by changing to a non-smartphone, or intentionally change to a tiered plan, they haven't been forcing you out of it.

Changing OS type, iOS, Blackberry, Android, will force a change of the dataplan, but it still remains unlimited.

May want to check it again. ATT is catching those doing what you stated and swapping them over to the newer plans.

Just because you are stating that it never happens, does not mena that. It will happen and has happened.

Max69 is correct. Anyone with the grandfathered unlimited data plan can keep it when they upgrade.

one other thing will force you out of the unlomited plan - if you tether or hotspot att will warn you and if it continues after the warning they will switch you to the 5gb tiered plan that allows tethering

I'm sorry gregzoll_1 but in this instance Max69 is spot on correct. There's nothing for At&t to catch because Max69 is completely within his ToS. As others have said, I can verify it as well, as long as you never change your data plan, and abide by the ToS, you will continue to be grandfathered in to your next contract.

Gator, not listening to someone who just signed up and posted a comment, without reading the whole thread. No, Max69 is not completely within the TOS. You are grandfathered into a plan, as long as you do not make any changes to your service (that includes phone devices).

Maybe familiarize yourself and read the contract. It also states that ATT has the right to change the features and your plan any time, after informing you they are doing so, since you signed a contract agreeing that you Party A is in agreement with the contract that Party B has you sign.

Yes, it is in there, that ATT can change your features, plans, terminate your service, etc., and there is nothing you can do, because you agreed to the contract when you signed it.

Re: Sharing Unlimited Data Between 2 iPhone's

Actually, my mother signed up with unlimited data with her iPhone 3G, and upgraded to the iPhone 4 last year, and she still has unlimited data. I believe that Max69 is correct.

Cmbutel, if you mother did an upgrade, that means she would have had to sign a new contract. Also means that the old features are no longer valid under the new contract.

Mostly the person that handled the upgrade looked the other way, or dis the upgrade on another line and left mom as non-contract. Just basically did a phone swap.

They are not supposed to grandfather old plans or features, when people change to phones like the iPhones, androids, newer window phone handsets.

Nobody looked the other way. People with the unlimited data plan are allowed to keep it when they upgrade.  That has been AT&T's official policy since the unlimited plan was discontinued.

Re: Sharing Unlimited Data Between 2 iPhone's

OK...I upgraded my wife's and my phones from iPhone 3gs and 4, respectvely, to 5 a week ago and did a 2 year contract renewal...we both still have our old, unlimited data plans.  So, changing your phone and redoing your contract, at least as of now, will not force you onto one of the new, limited data plans.
