i got new iphone 5 and i have a question that can i use wifi instead of using dataplan?

i have very minimum dataplan/month i want to use wifi so that i dont get charged for overusage of data in iphone 5

Yes, you can use wifi whenever possible. I don't have an iPhone but I do use wifi whenever I can, at home, I'm hooked up at work, and various other places.  I'm sure you don't have to but I turn my data connection off, just to be on the safe side when I'm using wifi, but I'm sure if you don't turn it off, it will automatically switch for you.
