I have also have the exact same problems with my DSL service or modem (whatever the problem is).
When I moved in this house it was brand new and I started out with Bellsouth Phone and DSL service. However, once they either merged or were bought by AT&T, then the problems began.
With my old modem, the DSL light would simply just go out. I had called tech support countless times with no solution. A number of different technicians have visited my home, messed with the hub outside so try and diagnose the issue. After being visited by 4 different techs, I got 4 different answers, all 4 which was out of their ability as a tech to be able to fix.
Finally I was sent a brand new AT&T 2Wire Gateway modem and no the light just turns red and flashes for a few minutes when the service disconnects. The same problem persist, only not as frequent as with the old modem. On top of that, during the past 3 weeks my connection speed has slowed to a crawl. It's only a fraction of the promised "up to 6.0Mbs" that I'm paying for. It takes 45 mins to download a 15MB file!
I've asked my neighbors whether or not they've been having the same issues, but they're smart, they have cable internet. Something I'm considering switching to.
I've been dealing with this issue for years now, and I'm relieved to know that it isn't just me that this is happening to. Please help! I don't want to go through the trouble of switching carriers, but will if I have to.
