You've been a 'customer' only a few days & you're having problems with AT&T... accept my sincere sympathy and welcome to the NIGHTMARE OF AT&T. Let me assure you, your problems have just begun and will only get worse! My experience was similar; NOTE: I have a computer guy who comes to my home when there's a problem; he deals with AT&T a LOT and doesn't put up with their stuff..he knows FAR more than their so-called techs. I had made a decision to change my ISP, but called my friend first. It is necessary for me to have nothing less than the HIGHEST SPEED AT&T offered. My computer guy gave me precise instructions on what to ask for when I called AT&T's internet service division (DSL/HSI); he also informed me of the monthly cost. ($50.00); all of which I wrote down in detail. With detailed instructions before me, I made THE CALL: Greeted by a very nice, eager, helpful, (seemingly) knowledgeable salesperson. I informed the salesperson what I needed and the importance of SPEED! The salesperson assured me AT&T could provide me with their Premium HSI service, noting their 'speed' was above & beyond all other ISP in the area. The salesperson informed me the monthly fee for the Premium HSI service would be 'between $45.00 to $50.00 monthly (?); in addition I would have to purchase and go to pick up an AT&T modem from the nearest AT&T service center as well as pay installation charges for a service technician to do the proper wiring. As soon as I had purchased the AT&T modem, I needed to call and schedule a time for the service technician to come out. Be advised, the service tech did NOTHING with the modem; did not even check to see if it worked...he just ran the proper wiring. The 'agreement' was made. Little did I know, I had stepped into their trap and was in THE NIGHTMARE OF AT&T. When my computer friend came out to set up my system with AT&T and get me hooked up to their Premium HSI service; he was none too pleased by the SPEED...he was MAD AS HECK. He asked me if I 'told AT&T what he told me"...YEP, I had. Well, there was no SPEED...dial-up would have been faster! AT&T insisted there was NOT a problem! This went on and on ... it is still going on! I have called so many times I am sick of the whole mess AND AT&T. In 2010 I called tech support for the 313th time. For quite some time I was unable to access the internet...it was 'intermittent'.. many calls on that, too. This time, APRIL 2010, the tech support guy asked if I would like BETTER technicians because they could ACCESS MY PC REMOTELY AND FIX IT...They were supposedly SUPERIOR to the AT&T regular (free) tech support; this is a different division called AT&T CONNEC TECH...I was so darn mad, I needed my pc to WORK so I told him to put me through to AT&T CONNEC TECH. I was informed by those people I had to agree to PAY A MONTHLY FEE OF ($13.00+tax) AND IT WAS A TWO-YEAR CONTRACT! I agreed ... I figured at least these people could FIX MY PC! I have been paying $16.24 monthly for over a year...increased their monthly charges. I've called them 979 times and my PC still does NOT connect to the internet! It has been sitting, unused since MARCH 2011 ! I've called billing they have no record of all my calls; they only show I have called TWICE! I was, I am LIVID! Asked that they cancel CONNEC TECH...no problem, but they'll charge me $10.00 monthly until my contract is up! I was sooo angry ! I told her to I was giving CONNEC TECH NOTICE NOT TO AUTO RENEW MY SERVICE WITH CONNEC TECH! She said she'd make a note of it! And it gets worse...I had upgraded my Kaspersky Internet Security suite for TWO years...had over 500 days on that all of which I have lost due to AT&T's incompetence! I asked to be reimbursed for that $$$ lost ... was spoken to RUDELY, MORE OR LESS CALLED A LIAR because THEY say I only called for help to CONNEC TECH ... TWICE! I told the very rude, could-care-less woman in billing that even my husband had called (because I was so fed up); she denied the call was made! I am using my hubby's pc by-the-way...he uses COMCAST!!! To be on the 'safe side', I called CONNEC TECH billing to BE SURE THAT MY SERVICE WAS NOT RENEWED ... ready for this...I was told '...you will have to call us on the renewal date of April 12, 2012 if you want to cancel...". ! I lost it...! Oh, the 'rude' billing person told me she would have to send my 'complaints about these matters' to her superiors and they would notify me. I have not received a call or an email...that was 2 months ago! I am still paying monthly for AT&T HSI service and CONNEC TECH service! I am not a happy customer of AT&T. One final note; just for the heck of it, I pulled over and stopped to talk to an AT&T technician working on phone lines in my area. I didn’t go into details, but asked him about DSL/HSI service. He asked me where I lived, did some checking, laughed and told me ‘there is no HSI service where you live’ … ‘you are located at the end of the line’. Told him a bit about my problem and he actually told me I should get every darn dime I’ve paid them BACK! Nuf said !!
