Thank you both for your replies. I tried your suggestions and still the same problems. The cables look correct to me but I'm no expert. In the i3812V there are two DSL lines (one gray and one black) and two cables for voice service (one green and one yellow). The gray DSL cable is connected to the green voice cable. That leads to another gray line (a regular phone line) which then leads to the gateway. The black DSL cable connects to the yellow cable, which just seems to be connected back into the unit. (We only have one phone line in our house though.) The ethernet port is blocked off. If it would help I could post a photo of the unit. It's kind of hard to explain the wiring.
The factory reset was done only on the inside unit. I'm not sure how to factory reset the main unit and even if I did, wouldn't that delete all our saved TV programs and DVR settings? I'd rather only do that as a last resort.
