i thought we only really kept one active contract and could upgrade/exchange to any number of phones throughout the 2yr contract length?
No, after the 14 / 30 day period you are require to keep the same phone until you are eligible for upgrade, which as long as you keep your bill current, have no suspensions dues to non-payment you can upgrade at the new user cost, other then that you are required to pay full retail cost of the device if you want to change
