question about Uverse & lifeline

When we signed up to get our phone connected we were told we could only have AT&T Uverse in our area of Wisconsin. We also asked about lifeline as I am disabled & on SSI & food share. We were told we were eligible. So they sent application for us to fill out. We filled it out & then a couple weeks later they sent it back saying they needed a copy of our food share card & the phone number on the account(which by the way they already had), okay we sent both. Now all of a sudden they sent the application back again, this time just asking for the phone number on the account again. So we called to find out what was going on & the lady that answered the phone tells us that our number is not active & that is why the application keeps getting sent back asking for a number. We said it is active, because we were on the phone as we were talking to her, so she changed her tune, she then said well you have uverse so you aren't eligible. Is this true & why did nobody tells us until now? How can our whole area that only allows new customers to have only Uverse not be lifeline eligible? But if you already had telephone service before it switched to Uverse then you can have lifline, how fair is that. Are new customers being punished for not living here before the switch happened?

Did you say you had POTS before U-verse? Your entitled to POTS for phone with U-verse for TV & internet.
Let me know how you make out.

We had moved to a different city & our old provider does not service this area. So we had to get AT&T. We had regular telephone service with our old company. I will try that contact link, Thanks.
