Problems pinning down a cost for New Uvverse service bundle for my 92 year old aunt

My aunt lives in Century Village in Deerfield Beach, FL.  She currently has AT&T home telephone service.  She wants to get an iPad to do Facetime with the grandkids and needs internets access.  I have not been able to get a direct answer or commintment as to the final cost of the bundeled service with the telephone and basic u-verse.

I have live chatted and gotten one answer, I have called four times and gotten four different quotes, and I have had two different people that I have talked to say they were calling me back and they never did.

I thought that AT&T would be the answer but they don't seem to have the answer themselves.

any help is appreciated..

thank you.

bmuseed - It really is complicated & hard to get a specific answer.

Look on the website for prices for internet, phone & bundled. Add some for taxes. At least yo know the high limit. Maybe that is too much.

She does not have to include tel. Just get internet. Is there someone who could do a self - install to save on that?

Can she pick up a wi-fi signal from a neighbor. Maybe the neighbor would share for $5-10.

Does she qualify for a low cost lifeline POTS service. I see adds on TV for a similar lifeline wireless service.

thnak you for the quick reply

I am going there next month to install and help her. I keep asking about life line service but she doesn't know..something else for me tor me to check.  Neighbors don't have wifi..

Last on the phone sales person I spoke with, after looking at her bill, said she could have the bundled internet and phone for the same price as her current phone and long distance service $60..but then never called back..

Check with a local att office for lifeline service or look in a local directory.

How friendly is she with the neighbors? If they have internet, maybe they just need to activate the wi-fi

There are also VOIP services, like magic jack & ooma.

Figure around $16-$18 for POTS Lifeline, and then around maybe $19 for very basic service, no DVR, $7.00 for the Set Top box, $38 for 3meg if she can get it for Internet service.

Base costs would be $82 before taxes. So add in the taxes on all, probably roughly speaking around $104 all together. So again, how hard is it for you to do what I just did bmuseed.

thank you all for your help... I feel bad that I hadn't informed her about lifeline..

I can hook up any system for her... modems, routers, wifi.. just getting the interent in... I will have her check with the neighbors but they are as old as her and probably don't have internet much less wifi...

comcast supplies cable for TV to the buildings so she can only go phone / internet buncle..

In that case, add about $55-$65 for catv. You may find that unless you have gone to the Uverse.att.com site and put in her address info, it is like a cat chasing its tail.

YOU need to do the homework, not everyone else doing it for you.

Interesting... I thought I was doing my homework with 4 calls to AT&T, without getting an answer..nor anything in writing..

No wonder all the boards talk about their horrible customer support ..only took one to Comcast to get an answer...

most of the people here have been helpful.. I forgot to mention that my aunt spent over an hour and three people talking to her before she gave up...

AT&T is a large, fragmented company that hires outside companies to provide customer support and sales consultation.  They don't offer the same services in all geographic areas, even within a geographic area some homes are not able to recieve all services. I've had similar experiences to yours dealing with Charter, and they don't have all the regulatory problems that AT&T does.

I know this doesn't justify it, but is the way it is.  Eventually they'll get better, or they'll lose market share.

In any case, we're just customers doing the best we can to help you.  I don't know squat about lifeline services.  I can tell you that you can evaluate the costs for U-verse Internet and Voice by going to this link:

http://www.att.com/u-verse/availability/index.jsp

It will tell you what you can get for what price.  Add an estimated 15% for the various taxes and fees, and there you go.

If you are quoted one rate and then after you get your bill the amount is different, call CS or come back here and post.  If you call CS let the CSR know about the difference in the amount.  If they don't do anything post here and we will direct you to the team who can get you the results you want.
