iOS 6.0.1 - Worth the Update?
11-02-2012 09:39:12 PM
Since the upgrade to iOS 6, I cannot...
A. Send/receive MMS messages (think I may have a fix for it). Depends on if AT&T can unlock my iPhone for me.
B. Wi-Fi connections in previous good areas drop constantly and sometimes have a weak signal. I have to hold my phone in a certain place to connect again once the connection drops.
Overall, is the update worth it? I don't want to screw up my phone worse than it already is...especially with my sudden inability to send MMS (thanks Apple)...

Like just about any other software developer, Apple tends to have issues crop up in major releases (4.0, 5.0, 6.0) but they have a pretty good track record with dot releases. It is unlikely that the update will make things worse, so what have you got to lose? I've updated on 2 iphones and 1 ipad with no issues, but I wasn't having any issues with 6.0 either.

An AT&T support employee has informed me that my iPhone will be unlocked as soon as I hook it up to iTunes and restore it. If I update to 6.0.1 before I restore my phone to have it unlocked, will it still have the eligibility to be unlocked? Or would the new update override the unlock eligibility?
personal expeirence - I had problems with the upgrade to 6.01 and had to reset, and restore the 3GS, when it restored it gave me the notification that the phone was unlocked

IOS 6.0.1 has allowed me to re-enable my work account that uses exchange. I had to use fetch otherwise my phone would lock up in mail.
This is a good update in my experience.

I've decided that I'll just accept the fact that I won't be able to send and receive MMS anymore. It's not worth the trouble to restore my phone and risk losing everything that I currently have on here, including photos, contacts, app data (especially my third-party music app with 100 songs not downloaded from iTunes), etc. I may as well do the 6.0.1 update as I know the rest of my data is safe; I'll just have to go through the hassle of re-arranging the stock home screen.
Thanks a lot, Apple...
Wouldn't you be able to create a backup of your iPhone, then restore from that backup after you have unlocked it?

Probably... I think I tried it before and it didn't transfer all of the apps I downloaded and purchased. I have to re-purchase and re-download my music app because it never showed up in iTunes that I purchased it... Kinda frustrating.
