contract free is NOT unlocked, Apple is the only place you can purchase a non-branded Iphone 5, given the short supply of them the chances of any being available for someone to walk in and buy are slim, add to the fact Apple has not announced when they will have them

Add another thing into the mix - there are multiple verisons of the Iphone 5 for use, they each work on different frequencies, the chances of a US model phone working on the LTE network outside the US is slim. to none. Take that into consideration also if you want to persue this avenue.

contract free =you pay full price for the phone, you have no 2 year commitment to the carrier to have service

649.00 for 16GB

749.00 for 32GB

849.00 for 64GB

Hey there!

Unless you are a current AT&T customer or former customer, or have bought the iPhone and able to provide the proof of purchase ( from the Apple store, AT&T store. or AT&T authorized retailer), I'm afraid you will not be able to unlock the iPhone.

Talk to your friend and see if they are eligible to get the phone unlocked.  If you complete the form and you are not eligible, there is nothing anyone can do here.

How long does it take to unlock AT&T iPhone?

I submitted the request to unlock my iPhone 4 on the morning of the 29th and I still haven't gotten any kind of response from AT&T. Is it typically supposed to take the full 7 days?

Re: iPhone unlocking questions and discussion
The request usually lasts 5-7 days. Since its been 5 days thus far, expect to see an email from AT&T today or within the next 2 days.

Follow the link below, it lists the requirements to unlock the iphone, if you qualify you get a unlock, if not then it will not occur

Unlock request

HI,

I'm requesting an unlock for my iPhone 3gs I had with a fully completed contract 2 years ago with AT&T they denied the request 3 times already, what should I do now? I'm completely eligible for this, in fact I had 2 phones on my account and the other phone, an iPhone 4, was unlocked!

Thanks,

Juan

Re: unlocking iphone
Unlocking a phone will not cause a charge. If your brother is under contract with AT&T and quits using AT&T, that will cause a charge.

Probably could, but you might want to check into it, you will not get LTE speeds in you home country with a US based Iphone, there are multiple versions of the phone out tere now

I'm aware of the LTE in my country, i know the version i need to buy, which is A1428, and i believe just in AT&T sells this, but i need an unlocked one, since apple doesn't start to sell it yet.

To my knowledge, AT&T doesn't sell unlocked iPhones, only Apple does.

from the link

Other carriers have deployed LTE Bands that none of Apple's existing iPhone 5 versions support. A variety of carriers in Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland are all deploying Band 7 (2600 MHz), while others in Germany and Sweden are using Band 20 (800MHz), and a variety of Middle Eastern carriers have started building out Band 38 (2600MHz).

A1428 is Band 4,17 for GSM

A1429 is Band 1,3,5,13,25 for CDMA

A1429 is Band 1,3,5 for CDMA
