Just my humble opinion, but if one was willing to pay $649 for an early upgrade just to, a) start the two-year commitment cycle again; b) deal with having to be on a 2-year contract and possibly paying the ETF if you decide to leave early...wouldn't you be better off paying the extra $200 for an unlocked iPhone? That way you still have your full upgrade (once you finish your commitment), no ETF to worry about, and since you have an unlocked iPhone, you should be able to find a buyer pretty quickly and still recoup quite a bit of your initial cost of having purchased it if you choose to sell it so that you can use the proceeds from the sale towards your upgrade cost.
