Mine already says preparing for shipment. What time on Friday did you order?

Pretty late, like around 09:10 PM CDT :/ It wasn't process until Saturday. At least, that's what the order status page tells me. 

Also do all orders say "Priority"?

your order going to say this until the 21st then ship witch is  next friday. pre orders had this problem when the Iphone 4s came out. pre orders said preparing for shipment and a week later it shipped.

Who did you order it through and what does your confirmation say?

graphite, mine will ship before the 21st, I got it at 3:07am EST and ordered it from apple. Previous pre order indicate you get it by launch date or the day before when you purchase from apple.

You will need to wait and see.  There is no hard fast rule here.  

What about the other two phones? They're not iPhones or anything, will I have to wait until I recieve the iPhone?

I've seen att ship phones separately for so that shouldn't be an issue.

I ordered a 32 mb black Iphone 5. Do any of you think that the 32 will ship faster since more people are most likely going after the 16?

I don't think it matters, and I would think the 32 is more popular (what I have), a happy medium!

I thought about starting a thread to try to gauge what people are ordering.  I couldn't think of an efficient way to collect the information.

Anecdotal information:  I saw the list of pre-orders at a Dallas Best Buy. The mix for black seemed to be roughly 60%/30%/10% among 16/32/64.

Yeah, I would think the 32 would be the most popular, more space is always the best

I would like to get by with 16, but too many Apps that I actually use!  One guy at an Apple Store said I'm what they call an App Hoarder!   I started out with a 2nd Gen. iPod Touch that topped out at 32 back in the day.

The fact that you'll probably get a new phone every 2 yrs., the cheaper the better if it works for you space-wise!

I was torn btwn the 16 and 32 but I remember running close to my 16 and decided it was worth 100 to not have to shuffle things off my phone.

I got my iPhone 4 the day before launch day from AT&T.  I think Apple control the timing of the shipping for everyone.  If Apple releases some of them for 1 day early delivery for their customers, then they allow the carrier to ship some early too.  If they say no one gets the phone before launch day, then that's what the carriers will do.

Wise choice!

they state it will ship on the 21st, not that it will arrive on the 21st, so it seems that it is shipping and depending on what shipping method is used you will recieve it sometime after that - as long as it is not in back-order status

I ordered my 32gb white iPhone 5 on Friday at ~6:00pm CST. The order status says back ordered and pending shipment. The ATT employee said they will ship on the 21st, but this was after I saw the ATT web page stating 2 or 3 weeks. So I'm not sure if the employee was aware of the high demand or if she knew something we don't. 

Also keep in mind if they ship them vis UPS....you're not getting them Saturday.  [Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate].

According to the email I recieved, it stated "Your iPhone has been reserved and should arrive as soon as September 21, 2012"

If the stores are going to have them the 21st, that means the warehouse is going to have them before the 21st to ship out (since the same warehouse is probably responsible to shipping them to the stores as well)

If there were to ship on the 21st, the e-mail wouldn't have stated as soon as the 21st.

My Apple order says "Delivers 9/21"  I interpret that as deliver to house/apt. on 9/21

You can't compare Apple delivery times to AT&T.  Apple ships them direct from China...you will have it by the 21st...and maybe sooner.  AT&T....good luck.
