WindowsPhone 8 Release

Does anyone from AT&T actually read these forums?

AT&T is poised to take a lot of business away from Sprint because of Sprints lack of support for Windows Phone... Why on earth do they not at least have a release date for Windows Phone?

AT&T finally put up a Coming Soon, announcement on the website, but coming soon doesn't give us any idea when. And their sent me updates feature, doesn't work. AT&T said they were "All in" with WP8, yet here we are still wondering about a release date.

And pre-order at BestBuy, No way! I'll be ****ed if I will pre-order with no known release date, no choice of colors, etc.

Microsoft teased for months on these phones, then the date we were all suppsed to wait for finally gets here and we still can't buy them in the US. At least T-Mobile & Verizon have release dates now, but no word from AT&T.

By the time AT&T finally does release WP8 no one will remember what they were waiting for.

This is an att wireless moderated customer forum. att staffers do not offer any sort of regular help, they simply ensure that the flaming is kept to a minimum and the language is kept above board.

Any answers you get will be from other customers/users, not from att.

Everything else you said, you are completely correct about. Att has spent no time or money marketing this thing in any sort of coherent manner. MS has to a lesser extent, however, again none of that has been coherent.

Sad for such an amazing device.

Re: WindowsPhone 8 Release

Launching Windows Phone 8 before the devices are ready is kinda like using the bathroom before you unzip your pants.  I think MS/Nokia just ****ed on themselves.  They can recover, but it will take a lot of advertising ($$) just to get back to a decent starting point.

And as for Best Buy - the only phone they are offering for preorder is the HTC 8X.  With 8GB of memory.  Really?  Only 8 GB?  I am tempted to pass on the 920 because it is only 32GB and not capable of a MicroSD.  I want to put my 18 GB of music on my phone (honestly, I have it on my Skyrocket on a MicroSD now).  I was waiting on WP 8 mainly for MicroSD support.  For MicroSD, you chose a lower end phone like the slower HTC 8S (1.0 GHz) or the smaller screen Nokia 820, or wait for the Samsung Ativ S (rumored to now have LTE, but nothing official).

Re: WindowsPhone 8 Release

I share the OP's frustraton. I have an iPhone 4 that's on it's way out and I've been due an upgrade for the past months holding out for the 920. I don't know who to be upset with, Nokia, Microsoft or AT&T, because the whole Windows 8 Phone launch was just laughable, it played out like an infomercial with celebrity appearances hocking their products, i.e...Jessica Alba.

Not offering any sort of solid date on the flagship 920 is just ill-prepared and short-sighted on everyone's part. If AT&T doesn't provide any more info within the next week, I'm just going to buy a unlocked Nexus 4 for $200 more, go T-Mobile prepaid and call it a day.

Re: WindowsPhone 8 Release

There has been a lot of talk about the 9th as the release data, which isn't typical for AT&T but is possible. The 11th seems like the real date.

Some have pre-ordered through best buy/ebay and they are showing a arrival date of the 6th but we have little confidence it will actually arrive by then.

I can't believe that AT&T isn't accepting pre-orders. I'm not buying another phone with a contract because if they keep this up then I'll just leave them. Soon enough Nokia shouldn't be doing exclusives.

Re: WindowsPhone 8 Release

I agree with the frustration about release dates.  I have been eligible for an upgrade since mid-July and I kept holding off because of Windows Phone 8.  This is the face of the allure of the Samsung Galaxy III-S.  Now I find out that AT&T probably won't have the samsung ATIV s or any version of it, unlike Verizon.  Well, if iPhone people jumped to AT&T because of that product maybe we need to jump ship because of their short-sightedness in offering the best of the Windows Phone 8 handsets.  The Nokia and HTC make me want to be ill because they're being marketed to a much, much younger crowd.  C'mon, AT&T, get with it!  Some of us don't want yellow phones!
