LIKE A LOT OF OTHERS.... I'VE PRE-ORDERED MY IPHONE 5 ON THE DAY OF PRE-ORDER LAUNCH. I PRE-ORDERED THE NEW IPHONE DIRECTLY AT MY LOCAL AT&T STORE TO SAVE MYSELF THE CONFUSION, I ALSO REQUESTED TO HAVE IT SHIPPED TO THE SAME ATT STORE LOCATION. I WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE MY NEW IPHONE PURCHASE / UPGRADE ON LAUNCH DAY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MY CREDIT CARD WOULD BE CHARGED AS SOON AS IT SHIPS, ASSUMING IT WOULD SHIP SAME DAY OR NEXT FEW DAYS... A FEW DAYS LATER I RECEIVED AN EMAIL STATING MY ORDER WOULD SHIP IN 14-21 DAYS.. IF I KNEW IT WOULD TAKE 2-3 WEEKS TO RECEIVE MY ORDER I WOULDN'T HAVE PLACE IT WITH AT&T. YOU HAVE COMPLETELY FAILED ME ON SERVICE.
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE DEFINITION OF "PRE-ORDER" IS? AND WHY IS AT&T SELLING THE NEW IPHONE AT A FIRST COME BASIS ON LAUNCH DAY WHEN SOME CUSTOMERS HAVE ALREADY PRE-ORDERED THROUGH THEM? HOW IS THAT A PRE-ORDER!!!!... NOW KNOWING THAT THE IPHONE IS ON BACK ORDER (HAVING TO FIND OUT JUST DAYS BEFORE LAUNCH) IM STUCK WITH MY OLD JANKY PHONE, WITH A NEW 2 YEAR AGREEMENT ALREADY EFFECTIVE. I THINK AT&T NEEDS TO INFORM THEIR OWN WORKERS OF THEIR OWN POLICY AND PLANS.... IT SEEMS LIKE NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT OR EVEN DOING... BUNCH OF AMATEURS. First you need to fix your caps lock it is stuck
Second you got to pre-order it, no where was any promise made that you will get it on the day of release. You are mis-repesentating your statements - there was not "falsely Selling" nor "promising lies", pre-order means just that you get to queue your order up before the actual release date of the device.
As for the definition - A pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. There is no promise that you will get the first drop of the product

Example Nintendo announced Wii U preorders. Those ran out fast so Gamestop is taking a Wait List, and when one becomes available they will call the person. The ones that preordered correctly will get it on launch day everyone else has to wait.
The way I see the iPhone launch it was done the opposite way. Stores Stock where given priority over preorders.

I do not and have never been a employee of att, read my signature block - now show me exactly where they stated that all pre-orders would be delivered on the day of release? Store stock and online stock are two different pools of devices - this was shown and documented everytime the iphone lala excurion happened. Pre-order is just that, the ability to place an order for a device prior to the official release, isyou can show exactly where it was stated that all pre-orders would be delievered on release date I will conceed that you are correct - and this is on a offical site for att, not a 3rd party site or a social site.
Not even going to talk about gamestop/ebgames they have messed up so many pre-orders that it is ludicrous - they advertise they will be "all stores will be open at midnight for the release" go to 3 major ones and not one of them where open, guess the employees and managers did not get the corproate directive
Per your example - what is the difference? ATT took pre-orders, they shipped what they had, everyone else went on the "back-order list"(aka a "waiting list") outside of a authorziation charges that is removed from the account, the people that are on the "back order"(aka waiting list) have not been charged till the phone ships - so exactly what GamesStop did.

I so agree with you. In fact, I called the customer service operator three weeks ago and she told me not to worry that the phone sim card had been activated indicating the iPhone was going to be shipped in a few days. When I first read the very large and colorful ad on the AT&T website, it stated the phone should arrive within 10-14 days. It was supposed to be a birthday gift for my finance , now that's past and my order says "Processing". You need to be clear that the phones are on back order and it will take a month to get your phone!!! Thanks a lot AT&T you lie, false advertise and have HORRIBLE customer service.

Don't try and cover up your poor service. Whatever happened to "The Customer is Always Right!!!" AND IF ME OR ANY OTHERS WANTS TO USE CAPS, DEAL WITH IT!!!!! SARCASTIC REMARKS TO CUSTOMERS DOESN'T CUT IT AND IS SOOOO UNPROFESSSIONAL. I'M GOING TO CUT YOUR SERVICE FROM MY COMPANY AND TELL EVERYONE I KNOW NEVER TO DO BUSINESS WITH ATT!!!!

AT&T's return policy has changed effective 10/07/12. You have 14 days to return the device & cxl without a ETF. Policy info HERE.

What happened to "the customer is always right" is a urban legend, it never did exist. Curoius have you any validated documentatin that is not modifiable that can prove your statements?

Yes, this is the case...ordered my new upgrade iphone 4 (I am behind the times) beginning of october at an ATT store and was told it would be in in about 3 days or so. Went back a week later and was told it was in a post office two towns away and I should go get it. So, my helpful ATT customer reps told me not to bother getting it as the post office would not release it to me due to the way it was shipped. Ok. I ordered a new one online. Waiting....tracked it on and was informed it was delivered to me on 10/19. But no, it was not, turned out the mailman took it to another home with a similar address (he called me tonite to confirm that it what happened) and the familiy cannot find it. OK. So, ATT is investigating. Ordered yet another one which should arrive soon (I hear it is on back-order). No one would believe me if I told them this! I have always found customer service at ATT to be extremely professional and helpful, always resolving my problems and this is why I have not jumped ship. I have 5 phones in service under my contract and hate the idea of going elsewhere. This was not their doing, my local store rep and mailman have made upgrading my phone a nightmare, but really, this is beyond belief. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. It has been frustrating to say the least!!

Unfortunately, this same pre-order mess has happened with every iPhone release since they started taking pre-orders. Also, for the record, Apple has the same definition of pre-order. If you pre-ordered a phone from Apple, you weren't guaranteed to get it on release day either. Unless you managed to get your order in the first hour, your delivery was pushed back later and later, so someone who "pre-ordered" from Apple before release day might not get it until 2-3 weeks later either. However, one area where Apple is much better is in telling you when you order that delivery will be weeks away, something that AT&T has never done as well as Apple.
