Problem Sending FAX From Printer With Uverse

I recently had AT&T Uverse Voice, Internet and TV installed at my home and now I sometimes cannot dial a FAX number from my Canon PIXMA MP830 Printer's dialpad as I did when I had my POTS Telephone line. I even connected just the FAX Line from the printer direct to the 2 Wire Gateway and still get a "fast busy" signal after dialing. This happens the majority of the time and sometimes it does work. I have a 5 phone wireless setup in the house and that works great and in fact if I dial a FAX Number from one of the wireless phones and have the printer "offhook" I can Fax that way as the call gets and stays connected. I do not have any extra phone connected to my Canon Printer ... only the one wire that goes to the Uverse Gateway into a splitter which also has a wire from the Gateway into the home phone jcak so all my house jacks are Uverse Voice enabled. Everything works great (Voice, Internet MAX, and one TV w/DVR) except for when I dial from the Canon MP830 Printer dialpad to a phone number. Is there maybe some filter that I need on that FAX Line to the Gateway? Sometimes the call does complete when I initiate a call from the printer's dialpad but for most calls I get the "fast busy". Anyone else encounter this with their all in one printer's FAX option? I do not FAX often but when I do I really need to do it. Thank you in advance for reading this and any suggestion would be appreciated. Maybe I have a bad Gateway?

Well, there are some settings you can check on the fax machine. You may have already done this, but this is what I found in the Cannon manual.  http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/2/0900002862/01/mp830_ug_us_v4.pdf

Make sure the machine is set to "Tone" dialing.

Set Dial Tone Detect to ON.

Try using the "Pause" button between numbers when dialing to slow down the dialing sequence.

The fast busy signal your hearing is a "off-hook" alarm being generated by either your phone line or the fax machine. There appears to be a setting on the fax machine somewhere to turn off it's off-hook alarm. If you turn off the off-hook alarm on the fax machine and you still here it, that means that the gateway is not detecting the fax machine's dialing tones.
