Sent to collection s after 30 day cancellati on and returned modem

Hi,
Today I received a letter from a collection agency about an account I closed with AT&T with in 30 days of activating it. I was told my bill would reflect a $0 balance once my modem was received and final bill processed. I have the UPS order number and tracking number from my return of my modem which was delivered 12/5/12. There should be no reason for why I received this letter from bay area credit service on behalf of AT&T for $133.20. Can someone please help me resolve this? Have spoken to several people on the 1-800 number with no help. Thank you.
