I have an old w518a from last year, I've bought several unlocked phones since and like to switch the sim around then a few weeks ago I bought a nokia mural from at&t and was prompted to activate it when I got it.
Does this deactivate my old sony ericsson w518a, which is a locked phone? I know there is an easy way to find out but it'd be easier if one of you could tell me.

What is now deactivated is your previous sim card. You can still put yor new sim card in the older devices and they will work.

thanks sitnsidewayz, I didn't get a new sim card, I think because is wasn't upgrade time but I was prompted by email to activate the phone when it arived (maybe I didn't need to do that) and I was worried that the sim was was tied to the phone and then my old phone wouldn't work unless I got it unlocked.
I've got some new face plates coming for my w518a in a few weeks so I want to be able to use it. If I understand correctly your answer will still stand right?

Correct. There was no need to activate the new phone and your old phones will continue to work with your current sim card.
