I just got a c905a from AT&T today. I debranded it, first with WotanServer, then with DaVinci.
The WotanServer debranding went perfectly, no problems. Except after it was done, I could not receive phone calls.
I then tried DaVinci, it gave me a nicer firmware (appears to be official Sony? The WotanServer one looked to be a Chinese knock off). Now with DaVinci I can receive calls.
Some questions
--------------------
-- My voicemail is now messed up. If I dial voicemail (hold 1), it says it doesn't have enough information to find my mailbox. However, if I dial 425-241-7064, I can get to voicemail and it works fine. (My cell # is a 425 number, is that just coincidence?) Is there anyway I can make it so dialing 1 or picking the voicemail menu option will work again instead of dialing this number?
-- When I go to Sony Ericsson's website to re-establish my internet settings (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/det
-- Where is WiFi? After rebranding I was expecting to find WiFi, but it's not present anywhere. In Menu > Settings > Connectivity, all I have is:
* Bluetooth
* USB
* Phone Name
* Syncronisation
* Device Management
* Mobile Networks
* Internet Settings
* Streaming Settings
* SIP Settings
* Accessories
How can I get 3G/data plan based internet working if the sony ericsson update never comes?
Thanks for any help, I'd love to get this phone back to working order again.

All the GPS stuff is in 'Location Services' on the main menu.
Hope you didn't use C905 R1FA035 CUSTOMIZED BR/NIGHT BLACK AMERICA at Divinci.

You may have to enter the settings manually.
I read where someone had used this place to get their settings.

Thanks for the reply, but I am unable to configure my voicemail by dialing 1 (like the instructions you linked to show). It just says "I do not have enough information to determine your mailbox" whenever I call. I took it to the AT&T store and one employee there was really mad at me for debranding, and another was quite helpful. He said I had managed to really wipe out the routing somehow. He suggested I call customer service, don't mention the debranding, and just say my voicemail isn't working. I'm going to do that when I get access to a second phone tomorrow.
I debranded again, this time manually with the A2 uploader and I have to say WotanServer and Davinci are a rip off, don't use them! Do it manually, it's not hard at all! I used these files from seusers:
C905_R1FA035_MAIN_GENERIC_SI_RED53
C905_R1FA035_FS_WESTERN-EUROPE_RED53
C905a_1212-2674_R6A_Customized_Generic_LAM_(b)
This is the best firmware yet. Wotan, despite picking Generic America, was almost entirely in Chinese and wonky, had odd logos and seemed to be a pirated firmware that was then hacked. It also didnt allow me to receive calls, a major problem. DaVinci was a standard generic SE firmware, but without WiFi and none of the apps (like Wayfinder or YouTube). It also was about 50% in Japanese, despite my choosing English.
The above firmware done manually myself is 100% in English, automatically detected and configured my data plan internet connection for me, MMS and email, has WiFi support, and all the apps. Not to mention I will need to upload customize_upgrade.xml files anyway, so I might as well get the A2 uploader. Again, Wotan and Davinci are totally unnecessary!
I still have voicemail issues and still cant send or receive SMS, but I will call AT&T tomorrow and see if I can get that sorted out.

Turns out the guy at AT&T completely disabled texts on my phone when I renewed my contract. A quick call to customer service fixed it.
My voicemail is still funky, but it works and remains the only issue with the phone. I will probably cal customer service again and have them fix it. So all in all I think I just got a little unlucky, debranding works great!

With the menu you can go to messaging > messages > settings > voicemail it's all the way to bottom and you can set the voicemail number
I think the SMS settings are on the SIM and should have come up on first start.
main menu > tools > connectivity . message settings > text message
service center +13123149810
SMS gateway circuit switched
email gateway 121

It probably has to do with the exact firmware you chose. WotanServer has an option for "Generic Americas" (CDA 1205-9079) - it is every bit as genuine as the one you get from DaVinci.

Probably the "Message Center" information on your SIM got tampered with/lost.
You can fix it (and the C905a will save the information back onto your SIM) by going to Settings -> Connectivity -> Messaging -> Text Messages -> Message Centers (or somesuch, I don't have my C905a with me). The correct message center for AT&T should be: +13123149810 (exactly as here, with a leading plus sign and no spaces). It is Circuit Switched.
-- When I go to Sony Ericsson's website to re-establish my internet settings (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/det
ailed/phonesetupwap/c905a?lc=en&cc=us) I never get the update from them. I am pretty sure I can't receive text messages (SMS) at all.
If you fix the message center information above, you should start receiving text messages again.

Hmmm.... seems like you have chosen a firmware with no WiFi support. Specifically, it may have been an operator branded one, or one for China (where WiFi is explicitly disabled). Did you choose a "Generic" or "Customized" Americas firmware? (You'll still get support for Chinese characters)
How can I get 3G/data plan based internet working if the sony ericsson update never comes?
You will want to create two access points for AT&T: One with direct connection (no proxy), and one with "wireless.cingular.com" as proxy. Use the former for most types of internet access (e.g. podcast downloads will only work this way), and the latter for AT&T specific services (Cingular Video, IM, MMS, etc).
So, two access points:
- Name: AT&T Internet, APN wap.cingular, no other information needed
- Name: AT&T MediaNet, APN wap.cingular, proxy wireless.cingular.com (same for all protocols), port 80 or 8080.
Also, you need to setup an MMS profile in order to send/receive multimedia messages:
- Name: AT&T MMS, Server http://mmsc.cingular.com/, Access Point AT&T MediaNet (as created above)
If you want to watch CV, make sure that the browser is using the "AT&T MediaNet" configuration, and then go to http://cingularvideo.cingular.com/.
