I really want a smartphone but I also want texting. I dont want to pay $50 a month for unlimited data and texting. I mostly use texting for facebook updates though. Should i switch to unlimited data and get my smartphone or get a feature phone and keep texting, but I really want the moto backflip. what should i do?

Or you could go to Sprint and get both for a lot less.

You should get a data and a lower messaging plan like 200, all for $35, just be careful if you do, 200 is only about 6-7 texts per day.

basically you need to look at the math: texts 0.25 each and data 0.01 per KB. you need to see what you average per month on each and add the costs and then do pay per use for the cheapest. My bet says the texting will be cheaper than the data especially if you do it to update facebook for the most part. and as someone else suggested you could cut cost further by buying a smaller feature package of 200 txts per month for $5 then it would be 0.25 per txt over 200 plus $5 for txt cost.

Get both.. Unlimited data and an unlimited messaging plan. Or you can use a third party IM service and Text service. this way you won't have to pay additional fees for texts. It's worth lookiing into.. Texting and data can add up quickly when not on an unlimited plan.. block features you don't plan to use. So you dont get unexpected charges

I say data unlimited cause you mention text you used for facebook, lower your text messages and use data for facebook

I'm with drum_bass on this one. The OP uses texting for Fcaebook mostly, which she can use with a Data Plan, but what about all those other times she texts a friend?? I'd go with the Data plan and a smaller Messaging Plan.

I hve the 50bucks unlimited everything plan ; but lately ive had to tap into my home wi-fi just to send or receive email/ text or browse web on the phone (which defeats the purpose if its not working with my cellular service)....
