Bleh. I bought a Nokia 5310 the other day, unlocked of course. I love it. Except for the fact that I can't get on MEdia Net or get MMS.
I've looked ALL OVER the internet, and I can't find help anywhere. [Nokia took their configuration thing off line. Very stupid move.]
***I am positive I am not the only person with this problem. There are many other people on these forums looking for this same answer. It's about time someone helps us all out for real. AT&T needs a configurator similar to TMobile's. It's completely idiotic. Don't be GSM if you dont want unlocked phones.***
If you could help me you would be my favorite forever.
Here's exactly what the phone wants:
-WAP-
Account name:
Homepage:
User name:
Password:
Use pref. access pt [Yes/No]
[If No] Access point settings
-Proxy [Disabled/Enabled]
-[If Enabled] Proxy Address
-[If Enabled] Proxy Port
-Data bearer [Packet data/GSM data]
-Bearer settings
Packet data acc. pt:
Network type [IPv4/IPv6]
Authenticiation type [Normal/Secure]
User name:
Password:
-MMS-
Account name:
Server address:
Use pref. access pt [Yes/No]
[If No] Access point settings
-Proxy [Disabled/Enabled]
-[If Enabled] Proxy Address
-[If Enabled] Proxy Port
-Bearer settings
Packet data acc. pt:
Network type [IPv4/IPv6]
Authenticiation type [Normal/Secure]
User name:
Password:
Thanks so much. If anyone could fill this in or find a WORKING website that will send me the settings it would be so amazing.
(: gunar.

I noticed too a week or so ago that Nokia seemed to have removed their settings configurator; it's too bad the 5310 doesn't have the settings wizard. ![]()
Most of the information that you are looking for is outlined in the "Browser/Internet Settings" and "MMS Settings" links under the "Device Setup" section -
here .
"Account Name" is user chosen - make it something meaningful to you ( such as "at&t MediaNet" ); to "Use preferred access pt" answer "no" so that it will let you input the remainder of the settings; MediaNet/internet uses "packet data" (not GSM data).
If there are specific fields you are not certain about as you are working through the tutorial, post back - someone out here will likely be able to give you additional assistance. There are many unlocked/unbranded Nokia users.
I'd work on the MediaNet settings first - as you have to have a working MediaNet connection in order for MMS to function.

Holy eff. I am NOT going to do this anymore.
Someone fill in the freaking thing I put there and everyone will be happy.
I'm sick of being taken to tutorials for other phones.
Seriously. NOTHING IS WORKING.
I put in exactly what the other phones say and the paper clip shows up for 2 seconds and disappears for good.
When I put the MEdia Net ones in it says "Packet data not available" then shows "Link not available" and goes away.
No E in box or anything.
Seriously, this is BS.

You're certain the data service is provisioned correctly on your account? Can you put your SIM in another at&t branded or unlocked phone and use MediaNet/MMS without any issue?
We are all just customers here - and unfortunately at&t isn't providing the specific settings in the tutorials for their *own* phones that have been released more recently. Using an unbranded phone, and especially one that at&t never carried, tends to require a little more work (inc. trial and error) in establishing the settings - the menus can be somewhat different, etc.

Wow. Sorry to be rude. I know you're just trying to help. But yes, to answer your question if I put my SIM into another AT&T branded phone it will send MMS like normal.
It's just a bit frustrating to know that your friend bought the same phone 2 weeks ago and just used Nokia's configurator thing and now I'm going through all this!
Oh wow.
Sorry, I really should have mentioned this before.
The data access to my account was shut off about a week ago after I ran up like $36 bucks in data. ![]()
But the AT&T rep promised that I would be able to get and send MMS. Which I was able to on AT&T branded phones.
Still needing the settings for this phone though.

It is frustrating that Nokia has removed their configurator.
And equally frustrating that at&t is no longer giving the settings in their tutorials even for their own recent phones.
If you have a friend who has the 5310, uses at&t, and has working MMS and MediaNet, I'd compare your settings for both to his. Have you already done that? (Or does he have T-Mobile?
)
And just so I'm clear in my own mind about your current account provisioning - as data access is required to use MMS. No matter what the rep told you, MMS will not work if you've had a data (or WIX) block placed on your account to prevent unintended data charges. The data access has to be provisioned on a "pay per use" basis - but the data used by MMS activities is covered with the charge for a messaging plan (or pay per use messaging).
So - you can put your SIM card in another phone and use MediaNet and MMS without any issue - as in, right now? You've checked it after they shut off the data access to your account about a week back? If you haven't checked it since then - do that first. Make sure you have working data access from your SIM card - then the phone settings for the 5310 can be worked on some more if that's really the issue.

My friend is on AT&T. But since the settings are in the "Default config. sett." area he can't open them to view them to tell me what's in them.
So pretty much, I just need the settings for the 5310.
***Well I just tried to put my SIM into my W350, and it said Download failed and the E on top of the bars was gone.
I suppose they disabled ALL data and I was lied to. I guess I better take care of that before we move on to the settings issues.***
---
I have tried everything I can think of.
Trying to use Sony Ericsson's configurator, trying Motorola's configurator, I've tried viewing the settings on my brother's A737 to copy them but since my phone uses such different names and asks for different things it was extrememly difficult to get anything out of any of those.
Nothing works.
And Nokia saying "contact your service provider" is NOT HELPING.

Yeah - that's what I was afraid of re: your data having been completely disabled by at&t. But that's good news actually - get that resolved so that your W350 works, and the 5310's settings may not be so far off as you've thought.
Hopefully it will just require an adjustment to one or two fields once you know that data is working again on your account.
Now that you say it - I believe someone had told me previously that the Nokia website had started sending "locked" configurations about the same time at&t stopped including the specifics in their tutorials.

After you know you have a working data connection (i.e. the W350's MediaNet and MMS work with your SIM in it) - try the following:
-WAP-
Account name: MediaNet (or whatever you want it to be)
Homepage: http://home
User name: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Use pref. access pt [Yes/No] (no)
[If No] Access point settings
-Proxy [Disabled/Enabled] Enabled
-[If Enabled] Proxy Address wireless.cingular.com
-[If Enabled] Proxy Port 80
-Data bearer [Packet data/GSM data] Packet data
-Bearer settings
Packet data acc. pt: wap.cingular
Network type [IPv4/IPv6] IPv4
Authenticiation type [Normal/Secure] Normal
User name: (none)
Password: (none)
-MMS-
Account name: MMS (or whatever you want)
Server address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Use pref. access pt [Yes/No] No
[If No] Access point settings
-Proxy [Disabled/Enabled] Enabled
-[If Enabled] Proxy Address wireless.cingular.com
-[If Enabled] Proxy Port 80
-Bearer settings
Packet data acc. pt: wap.cingular
Network type [IPv4/IPv6] IPv4
Authenticiation type [Normal/Secure] Normal
User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (all caps)
Password: CINGULAR1 (all caps)
If that doesn't work, post back and let us know. Those are the settings in my E70 which work for both MediaNet and MMS, but my menu options are slightly different than yours, and it's possible I have something in the wrong field for the 5310.
There are also some additional delivery settings for MMS within the messaging menu itself (on my E70); you may need to take a look at those and make some adjustments there if you end up with a working MediaNet connection but MMS is not working yet.

I use a different access point for e-mail access on my E70 (I also have a yahoo mail account - it is a sbcglobal.net e-mail address). I have another access point set up in my connection settings besides the MediaNet access point. Here are the settings for it - I have this access point assigned as the default within the e-mail settings function on the messaging menu. Hopefully this will solve the problem if you haven't already gotten it worked out. ![]()

If you are still having problems after trying this - put the username/password information down below in the "bearer settings" section instead of up above (where I've listed the WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM and CINGULAR1). The E70 only has one field for username/password rather than two in the access point settings, and I'm not certain which of these fields should be used or if it matters which one is.
I don't know how the menu system is laid out on the 5310, but if you have separate "web" access from the MediaNet access, I have this "Internet" access point assigned to my "Web" menu icon as well. The MediaNet access point is assigned to "Services" within the "Media" main menu option.

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!! You are the BOMB! Now I only have to wait until September when my Wirefly contract runs out. If I use my 5310 before that they'll charge me for my "free" Samsung Eternity. Again, THANK YOU!!!!!!
You're welcome! Glad it worked for you too.
But I'm a little confused - your Wirefly contract is for your current at&t line of service that you are using with the Eternity? If so, you'll certainly want to read Wirefly's stipulations again carefully, but I'd think you could move your at&t SIM to the 5310 and use it for your line of service if you want to. I've never seen a third party agreement that stipulates you can't use the at&t SIM in another phone - and it's the line of service that is under contract; so as long as you don't change anything associated with the service from at&t from what you purchased via Wirefly, I'd think you'd be fine to use whichever phone you prefer. Also, at&t's system doesn't recognize "what" you are using when you are using an unbranded phone - i.e. they don't have the IMEI numbers on record for phones that aren't theirs - so to my understanding, your last phone that at&t recognizes (the at&t branded Eternity) will remain your "assigned" phone as far as at&t is concerned.

I don't use the 5310, but you should create an additional access point for the MMS settings with all the settings as outlined previously in this thread; you'll likely set it up in the same place as you set up the settings for WAP/internet, but you'll create an entirely new group of settings ( check under "options" - "add" or "new access point" ); and then you'll assign that as your access point name to be used for MMS (within your MMS message settings).

Thanks for posting this. I bought an unbranded 6126 to replace my original AT&T version (that died a watery death in the washing machine) and was getting pretty frustrated looking for the MediaNet settings.
I was able to use these settings as the basis to get everything working again. Hooray!

Unfortunately IM settings are not something that at&t has published.
I haven't been successful in getting the built-in IM client to work on my unbranded Nokia E70, and I don't recall seeing anyone else report success either. You may be best off to just download a third party IM client, although the IM activity will be chargeable as data usage.

Just posting to say thanks for the info. And for anyone else looking......it also jives with the Nokia 5730 (S60 3rd edition). (I pop'd the sim in and it just worked..but went back double checked).
