Am I able to sell an iPhone 4 from an account that has been cancelled??? People tell me about bad esn numbers but I thought iPhones had SIM cards? I need any information please and thank you!
when you say canceled do you mena the account etf was payed and the contract marked complete or canceled for another reason? If the etf has been paid you can request a unlock by filling out the questionaire that is stickied in the Apple device forum here and see what happens, if the account was canceled due to other reasons chances are the phone will not be unlocked from att and may have the IMEI number blacklisted.
Iphones 4, 4S and 5's have both, the sprint and verizon versions use the ESN number for verizon CDMA service and the SIM / IMEI for GSM networks overseas and the att version uses the sim and the imei number

So once the phone has been unlocked, it's safe to sell? I have never sold a phone before and don't want to mislead anyone. After it's been unlocked, the person who purchases the phone will be able to activate it for themselves, correct?

Along with Wingrider's comments, as long as the phone hasn't been reported stolen you're free to sell it. If it's unlocked you increase your number of potential buyers. If you don't unlock it, you need to inform anyone who buys it that it can only be used on AT&T.

So I don't need to unlock it to sell it? I know for a fact that it is not stolen, I purchased it brand new at walmart. But if I would get it unlocked, are you saying that it can then be used on any network, or just AT&T?

If you don;t unlock only another att customer can use it and they cannot request the unlock through att because they will not fulfill the requirements
Again as far as selling it and having someone else use buy the phone it depends on what you mean by the account was canceled
