I have done a lot of searching and have come to the conclucion the AT&T Z221 cell phone cannot accept file transfers from my laptop (why not?) using an USB cable. Does anyone know if I bought a Bluetooth dongle for my PC to make it Bluetooth ready, could I tranfer files using Bluetooth? Thanks.

Possibly, but no guarantees. The specs show it supports the FTP profile, but doesn't specify if it can receive files.
What are you trying to send to it? The phone only has 30MB available to the user.

I want to be able to tranfer pictures I take with the phone or ringtones I make on my laptop. It is very convenient to be able to drag and drop several files at a time.

I solved the problem by taking the phone back. This phone can be summed up with one word - absurd.

Yes. You can send and receive files using Bluetooth.
Alternately, you can send and receive files by E-mail. This was explained in a recent thread.
I wish I found this thread earlier.

The problem is, I don't use internet on my Z221. The screen is too small for my tired old eyes.
I want to take pictures with my phone, then move them to the computer via USB. I am running Windows XP (SP3). When I first plugged in the Z221, it went through its usual gyrations of installing various drivers. Now, when I plug in the phone via a USB cord, it makes the usual USB device connection sound, but the device doesn't show up in "My Computer" or in the Hardware Manager (USB section).
I have a similar problem with a Magellan GPS unit- - XP won't recognize it either. Maybe it's a fault in XP? ...or maybe Microsoft (in its infinite wisdom) changed the Plug-n-Play software and removed that functionality?
Thanks in advance...

If you happen to have a laptop or tablet, they sometimes come with Bluetooth wireless. Using Bluetooth to transfer files to and from Z221 should work. I use Bluetooth to transfer pictures to and from the Z221.
If you find out how to make USB file tranfer work, please post back as there are many who wish they could use USB file transfer.
