I don't think this ruling comes as any surprise--Big Bro has always hated ATT.
I think ATT should buy up VZN--their CS is absolutely HORRIBLE, they cheat their customers, and their signals are non-existent in the areas I travel.
I'll bet if VZN wanted to buy T-mo, or even Sprint (which I figure they will if the T-mo ruling gets successfully appealed), DOJ would be right behind that!
I'd venture to bet there was a LOT of cash hitting the political coffers by the competition against ATT. And we are coming up on an election year. ![]()
I read a rumor that Sprint would like to buy Tmo if the ATT deal falls through...doesn't make much sense. And remember, ATT will still be out $3 billion to Tmo if this deal doesn't go through, plus other perks.

right on the money (pun intended) on that one. Only thing is Sprint already tried to buy t-mobile and their offers where deemed seriously lacking....
there will be a load of dancing and "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours" dancing around in the goverment - it being a election year coming up - no elected official wants to go into the race being known as the cause of loss of employement options in their state
DT will lose out also - they will lose the seats on ATT's boards that was offered as part of the sale price

Now I would believe Sprint wants to buy T-Mobile. They tried to do it in the past, right? No surprise of they tried it again. Here's the issues with Sprint though.. Their phones are CDMA.. T-Mobile is GSM. Now, knowing these phones are different, how will buying T-Mobile make any sense?
They would only bury themselves in bankruptcy because they will then stress themselves with offering phones based on both networks. Think of it this way.. Sprint accomplishes something major, but then have to defend that status 10 seconds later. It would be a 2 on 1 ordeal.. Then they have the iPhone now, bigger waste of money as they can't afford to keep up with the data even if they tried.. So in the end, we would lose 2 companies..
I highly suggest Sprint reconsiders.. If they plan on staying in the competition.

Yes, and that's why I said the Sprint/Tmo rumor makes NO sense.

this is not over, both DT and ATT have engaged the services of the top two firms that deal with the DOJ style injunction - they are the ones that got the DOJ injunction halting the sale of peoplesoft to Oracle thrown out in record time, which ended up occurring. This is going to be interesting to watch and see what it takes to let it go through
