Hi,
I just got my phone with the extended insurance plan($9.99). To be honest, after reading all the reviews regarding Asurion, I wasn't feeling too confident in AT&T's protection plan so I picked up more insurance from a company called SquareTrade.
They have a very high rating (4.8 out of 5.0) and many good reviews. While many may not see the need to have such extreme coverage, I do as a $650 phone is a major investment me.
As a suggestion to AT&T, it may well be within their best interests to find an insurance provider with a better reputation then Asurion. I for one wouldn't mind having the extra protection for a few bucks more rather then having to get a separate insurance policy.

Asurion pretty much has a lock on the carrier offerings. ATT and the other carriers probably get some commission? When you have policies written with some very specific guidelines, you do get many who are upset that the plan works as designed and written but not as one assumed.....

That's a shame and really bad customer relations. AT&T could easily take the market by providing a truly hassle free insurance plan where the customer has a choice between basic and extended (with an extra cost) services. The current plan offered would be the basic plan, while the extended plan would enhance items like:
1. the customer being given a new phone (basic gives refurbs) as a replacement.
2. the number of claims per year could be customized to the customer's preferences, like tiers. Each tier would have an associated cost to it.
This type of system can be set up in tiers where the customer can choose the tier (and its associated cost) appropriate to their needs and/or their situation.
