Guys, How do we resolve the fraud of someone opening an ATT account in your name ?? Just found on my credit report apparantly someone opened an account with my name and SS#. They didnt pay a dime for three months before ATT closed and realized that I never lived at the address given and certainly didnt know anyone called by the criminal. ATT's collection company wants $1000 even though I provided proof that I never lived at the address given. And clearly never had the phone in question. Collection agency wont stop. Im sure the phone numbers called would lead the criminal but they choose to harrass me instead. Any help is appreciated !! In the mean time we switched all our employees to Verizon. Its true they have better covereage and certainly better customer service. Thanks in advance for your help AB

Proper authorities. AT&T is not a law enforcement agency.

as mentioned, take it to the proper autorities, contact the major credit reporting serivces and place a fraud alert on them, contact your banks and credit card issueing instutions, then contact professional assistance from a firm that has a history of assisting in identity theft issues, let them handle the issue of collection agencies for accounts that where opened by who ever got your information. Then start looking for how they go it. Recovering your identity and clearing your records is a major hassle.
I doubt that the "phone numbers called" would lead to the criminal unless they are really inept and of a low intellignce scale - the phones where obtained in your name, the sims destroyed and sold on the open market or on the street corner to make a quick buck.
Unfortunatly you are ultimately responsible for the issue. Identity theft is a multi-billion dollar industry in the world, it is not just limited to the US or ATT. The chances that the information was obtained from att or any carrier is slim, a security breach for a company is always covered by the 5th estate

I'm sorry to hear that an unauthorized user opened an account in your name.
Is the account in question a business account?

ATT has a fraud department. You can call their customer care at 18003310500 and then ask to be transferred to fraud. Maybe they can help with getting that off your credit report by doing a write-off reversal. Doesn't hurt to give them a call.
