Changing my rate plan without making a new contract or extending the actual one.

On January I made a contract with AT&T choosing a Puerto Rico regional plan. At this moment I want to change my rate plan and choose the Puerto Rico unlimited minutes plan, but I noticed its not available online to do the exchange. At the office, the sales representative told me that I should call customer service to do this, and that my service contract is not supposed to be extended.

Can I change my rate plan to the one I want and can it be done without extending my actual contract or making a new one?

Rate plans can normally be changed without extending your commitement.

You need not extend your contract anytime you are changing to a plan with a higher base price point, is that correct? I am just looking to clarify the general rule for my own information. Thanks.

That is correct, contract renewals are only associated to discount equipment purchases.

AT&T's return policy has changed effective 10/07/12. You have 14 days to return the device & cxl without a ETF. Policy info HERE.

To correct/clarify my own statement, an online Customer Service representative informed me that contract renewals are not required regardless of which plan you choose, even if it is less expensive than your current plan base price.

I've changed texting and voice plans several times over the past 2 years, increasing or decreasing my minutes so you should have no problems
