Change number for work - loss of grandfathered unlimited plan.

Okay, I might have to change my service area for work. Right now my area code is from a previous location. I've called AT&T a few times and get a different answer to my question each time. One person tells me that I'll lose my unlimited plan by having to change service areas, another says I won't lose it yet another has no idea. I'll get a stipend but it won't cover the difference if I lose my grandfathered unlimited plan. Anyone dealt with this situation? Thanks!!

Without giving specifics, why do you have to change your service area for work? Is it so that your customers will have a local number to call you on?

OK. I still may not get the nuances of your situation but consider this as a solution. Get a Google Voice number that is local to your area. Link your current cell phone number to your Google Voice account. Give out your Google Voice number as your work number.

I don't see a downside to this if you have a plan with unlimited voice minutes. If you have limited minutes and rely on unlimited mobile-to-mobile calls, this could cost you more than it is worth. Google Voice calls are usually not treated as mobile-to-mobile calls.

Very interesting! I've been reading about Google Voice after your suggestion and I think it might be perfect. Work wants to be able to call me using their land lines without being charged for long distance which is the reason for needing a local number for when I'm not in the office. Thank you!

That and free unlimited texting that can be viewed or replied via PC. Or on an android phone with the app. I front pay for text and its awesome

The iPhone Google Voice app works for texting too. I'm pretty sure that the Windows Phone app will allow for text messaging, as well.

What do you mean by front paying for text messages?
