I just called customer support and asked why ATT was charging $6.99 for insurance when my contract clearly indicates $4.99. I was told, "Well, out prices went up." Since we have a 2 year contract indicating $4.99 should I assume you have chosen to void that contract?

No

When one side fails to abide by the terms of the contract they have chosen to abrogate that contract.

Yes if no notification was sent that prices are increasing and prices are increased that is a valid reason to cancel with no ETF, however AT&T did send out notification with plenty of time before the increase was processed therefore not a breach of contract.

Good try. But, your own billing shows otherwise. My contract, dated 7-2-11 shows $4.99. My next bill, starting 7-4-11, shows $6.99. I didn't have insurance prior to 7-2-11. So, are you saying you notified me in 2 days and that was suffiecient time? Really?

You were notified. Believe me. All customers were notified, so therefore no breach of contract.
EDIT: I'm just going to leave this here. This is straight out of the wireless customer agreement. Say even if you weren't notified (which you definitely were) you are passed the period where you can cancel with no ETF.

First, this forum is not staffed by customer service agents. It's a customer-oriened forum, meant to facilitate customers helping other customers with answers to their questions. So there is no "you" to whom you are talking. Other than the two Community Managers, anybody identified as an AT&T employee by their signature is here on their own time and is not speaking on behalf of the company.
Second, the Asurion web site indicates the cost of the insurance is $6.99/month.
Finally, your contract is for voice service with AT&T. Insurance is an add-on provided by a third-party service, so I'm not sure if it even counts as a material part of the contract.
You are not going to win this battle. You have two choices - pay the $6.99 for insurance, or drop the insurance. AT&T is not going to let you out of your contract.

Hmm..I'm glad I found this thread. None of us on our plan has ever had insurance on any of our phones. I believe it used to be around $5/mo.
A week ago, my husband upgraded his phone the day BEFORE the new $36 upgrade fee took effect. While we were going thru the contract with the CSR, he asked my husband if he wanted to take the insurance on his phone which would be $10/mo...(news to me!) This WAS a corp ATT store, btw, and we DIDN'T take out the insurance.
So, what IS the correct price of phone insurance, nowadays?? I'm curious to know only because we were told it was $10/mo.
Wait! I just saw this...could this be what the CSR was trying to rope my husband into??
Hangin' with my Peeps!!
