The truly sad thing about this forum is that all it is doing is providing unlimited laughs to those at AT&T who read this thread...the sad truth is: THEY DON'T CARE!!! AT&T has created this forum so users can uselessly vent their frustration and anger harmlessly. If you are that unhappy, there are really only two things you can do:
1. Vote with your wallet...look elsewhere for your wireless data solutions (assuming you have options in your area).
2. Contact the FCC, Better Business Bureau, and your local and national legislators and urge them to invesitgate AT&T's policy of throttling "unlimited" customers in a blatant attempt to force them into using tiered data plans!!

They read, and don't kid yourself about not caring...now that it has media attention, it will get them to act; though maybe not as favorable an outcome as people would want.

Oh, I'm pretty sure ATT cares right now. You can dang for sure bet that there have been a boardroom or two meeting with all of the higher ups regarding all the bad press they are getting right now.
They WILL issues some type of statment soon regarding this.

Keep us posted, LOL!
And as mentioned earlier, they're cooking up some kind of Unlimited data and/or texting deal IF you get an ATT credit card and pay bills/spend a certain amount with it. Recent e-panel survey had all kinds of options they're looking at.

You know, I'll bet they could just start cutting people off for doing that, like Comcrap does to people on their home Internet? My understanding is they do that with a warning, a second offense and they cut your service! When you look at that, throttling is a better option, no?

Except, this isn't about cutoff vs. throttling, and which would be a better option...neither is acceptable. This is about AT&T using vague, unsubstantiated critera for effctively rendering an unlimited data plan useless, and strong-arming longtime, loyal customers into tiered data plans in which AT&T can charge for data overages, the way they can't in the unlimited plan.

"Like I said before... imagine at&t owning an all-you-can-eat restaurant... and saying it's unlimited... but then saying... "Yeah, you can use your plate the 1st time, but after that we take it from you. Any additional food must be brought back to your table on a postage stamp.""
Love this analogy.
And to the cut-off vs. throttle discussion, you'll still starve eating off a postage stamp.
Isn't it ironic that there is only a limited bandwidth issues with grandfathered customers(aka, your most loyal customer base)?
I hope it was worth it AT$T. You've managed to turn off a large percent of your customers, good luck with that.
I will gladly leave my AT$T as soon as my EFTs are manageble, one line at a time and never look back.

You can bash Sprint all you want but nothing is slower than this throttled garbage you call mobile service that I have to deal with each month.

This issue probably wouldn't be such a hot button with customers had AT&T chosen to make 3GB the cap for throttling. Are the tiered people buying 3GB, for the same $30 I'm paying for unlimited, being throttled at 2GB? If not then where is the comparable value? And don't give me that "if speed is important to you then you should switch plans" speech. It's suppossed to be about congestion anyway.
I didn't sign up to be penalized or go backward with technology (slower than dial up speed) by 20 years. Come on AT&T at least Verizon is throttling ONLY when needed then you get your speed back unlike you that keeps US throttled until the next billing cycle.......AT&T this was one of those bad business decisions. Admit it and fix it and let's move on.

Don't see how you think that grandfathered customers with Unlimited are their most loyal base, since I've been loyal with NO data plan (until recently). I've had their phone service for over 30 years, so I feel they should give me free Family Talk for life, LOL! I really don't think any company cares about loyalty these days; if you don't like a product/service, you quit and go elsewhere, just the way it is.

They'll never respond here, and once they do publicly, I'd expect this thread to be closed (but not deleted). ![]()

Naahh, they won't close it. Once this thread gets to a certain size, they'll just route this thread through a server with a 300 baud dial-up connection to the internet!
We'll still be able to post to it all we want, it'll just be a little slower, so that the other threads can have a fair chance to be seen.

the thread discussing the sunsetting of the "no data plan required on a smartphone" feature was about 7 times larger then this one, it was never closed, it just died off when people accepted that ti was not going to change anything

I want at&t to go back and correct their mistake. I've always said good things about at&t until they throttled me. Its just crazy to think they offered unlimited years ago, and now its not. Its the principle.
Honestly, I am happy at&t is taking such a hit from customers. The more public this story gets the more at&t will realize they messed up big time.
AT&T, just please fix this. There is no reason to make your customers hurt like this. You can change upgrade fees, and change tiered pricing, but I'm not giving up my "unlimited" data plan, I'm going to keep at this and keep contacting CNN and news groups till you fix this.
You turn on me, I'll turn on you.

BEST post yet !
I`m sure ATT will do something, like tell us that they are raising to start at 2.5GB or something like that, but it wont be drastic... They are not able to get a hold of their expansion of the network, the backhauls are so congested that networks are crumbling down, my LTE is so congested at times that I can only get 50Mbits of data and I think I should be throttle at 1.6GB or even less then that !
/Sarcasm

By AT&T's own admission, they are throttling data to the top 5%, which is 'currently' set to 2GB.
For those going over 2GB, you are considered to be the top 5%.
This means that once you are being throttled, you should try and consume MORE data to assist AT&T in bringing that bar 'up' to a higher level. Assumed 5% today is 2GB, if everyone throttled consumes at least 3GB or more, AT&T will raise the bar.
AT&T appears to support this methodology, as there is nowhere that mentions that you will not have unlimited, and there is no 'fixed' cap where the throttling beings.
If AT&T makes an official statement that they will not raise the bar on unlimited, then I will retract this post.

It's a real shame when a company tells you one thing and then does another. At&t would be better off to adopt a plan like Verizon, where they throttle a larger percentage of users (IF needed) but at maybe half speed rather than 90 to 99% reduced speed. That way it won't be as bad... or drastic, and it won't render your smart ph... AT&T HAS RESERVED THE RIGHT TO THROTTLE THIS NON-AT&T CUSTOMER TO FIVE CHARACTERS PER MESSAGE. THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG EVERYONE. IF YOU DON'T LIKE OUR SERVICE, DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN THE KEISTER.
