New Member PM Probation

I'd like to suggest that anyone who registers a new forum account be restricted from sending other members PM's until they have a predetermined number of posts on the public forum -- for example, 10 - 20 posts. There are too many new members who come here to read and pick out the members who seem to be knowledgeable that they will PM for personal "tech support" without posting their issue for the benefit of others who may be having a similar issue.

That's a good idea! In fact, it should be more like 50 or more posts. That should at least encourage forum participation. Of course, those PMs that are being sent could be from wandering AT&T reps. Oh the irony...

It's a policy we enforce on another forum I moderate, mostly to thwart spammers. (And yes, I've been PM'd here by new members for direct advice several times).

Hi Lkc2854,

Thank you for your suggestions. The moderators really liked this idea, however there are limitations by the software. New Users would not be able to reach mods directly if they had a problem posting nor would the mods be able to communicate with the new users regarding warnings, coachings etc. For that reason, we will not be able to implement your suggestion.
