Why do I have TXT/IM overage if I haven't used any minutes?

Received my iPhone today... Love it, awesome. So, I'm connected to Wifi in my own home, I've received a few text messages since I have a new number, everything was cool... Then I checked my data and minutes and they are as follows:

MINs Used of Avail as Of: 11/13
Anytime: 0 of 450
N&W: 0 of 5,000
M2M: 0 of Unlimited

Next Bill Cycle: 12/07/12
Data (MB): 0 of 300
TXT/IM Overage: 60

I've been texting over my home Wifi, why is it charging me for overages? I haven't used anything yet to begin with.

Unless the method of sending the messages are through a app that is designed to use data, all messages sent and received are through normal methods and are billable.

AT&T's return policy has changed effective 10/07/12. You have 14 days to return the device & cxl without a ETF. Policy info HERE.

I'm not using any app used to send messages.... Why wouldn't it take it from my minutes and not charge me with Overages? Makes no sense.

Text and minutes are two different things, minutes are used for actual voice calls, text messages cost $.20 each and picture messages are $.30 each, there is an unlimited text and picture messaging package available for $20 per month. Wi-Fi is for data and doesn't cover voice calls or texts.
