Basically, you have a phone.. Now it generally has a voice and/or data plan. In the event of just a voice plan, it's up there as your primary plan. Now replace that with a data plan and then you pay per minute on the voice. But it works just like a regular phone would only with Pay per use minutes. It has a SIM card. You'd still have to sign a 2 year agreement to get the phone cheaper than retail you'd just have to call customer service to set it up.
Oh, and from what I remember, it's only available for certain business accounts. Or something like that.

avery_heart, thanks for your quick replies!
By the way, do ATT reps reply on this forum? I called customer support a few times and every time I received a different answer, same with questions about other topics. So I don't know what to think. I want a specific official answer from ATT that will be documented here so that later I can come to a store and point them to their reply in case of any questions.

Don't mention it, I'm just bored.
Sadly, it's against the rules for employees to post on here, so you won't have any luck getting an official reply unless a Mod/Admin posts one. And I wouldn't go around requesting reponses from admins(not a bright thing to do)
Edit: As far as the website indicates for Data Only plans,
"
The following data plans are for customers who want data only. You can save money if you intend to buy voice and data together. Start by choosing an individual or FamilyTalk plan, then add PDA Personal for only $30 or PDA Personal + tethering for $60.
Access and manage your personal email from up to 3 accounts with a PDA wireless device. Send, receive, forward, and reply to messages while on the go.
PDA + tethering enables you to connect your wireless device to your laptop via Bluetooth or a connection cable. Certain usage restrictions may apply. See Explanation of Rates and Charges for details."
it doesn't say if you have to be a business customer to qualify.

Thanks again!
It's actualy strange that they run a forum for support, but don't provide the support here!
If not you, I guess, I wouldn't get any replies!
My question doesn't seem to have an explicit answer on their web site, so I will probably just go to a store hoping that they will know how to register a data only plan. One of the reps I talked to said that it is impossible to get a data only plan, others said they can do it. Some of them even said that I can have a pay as you go plan with unlimited data, but this turned out to be wrong.
Oh irony!
And who came up with such scary smiles!? ![]()
