I have been with AT&T since my first cell phone in 2000.
I have the 2GB data plan. I do not go over my data cap as I take advantage of WiFi. I have 3500 rollover voice minutes from a $39.99 voice plan, so it is obvious that I do not need that much voice, but it's the lowest plan offered. I sometimes go over my texting cap because I'm on my old 200 messages plan for $5/month, but it simply does not make sense to upgrade to $20 unlimited because I only get charged about $10 more (what happened to the $10/month plan?), IF I go over which doesn't always happen.
So my bills are around $90, for maybe a few hundred voice minutes from the $40 I hardly use, 2GB internet and a few hundred or less text messages a month. I work as an independent iPhone app graphic designer and need my iPhone for work, so it is not an option to dump the data phone. It is clear looking at my usage, that AT&T is not a good fit for me. I am going to be shopping around for prepaid data plans with a different carrier, emphasis on low voice minutes and high data/texting.
I am no longer under contract, and it's time for me to move on. I hope AT&T realizes that they cannot get away with these lopsided plans forever, and how displeased data consumers are.

you are going to find the other two carriers are the same, verizon is shared data plans only that minimum for 1GB data and unlimited voice and text will hit you for 90.00 a month for a single device, 2GB is the same price @ 90.00, 4GB would hit you 100.00 a month, no optopns for low voice minutes or texting plan, it is the only thing that verizon has. Sprint will run you about 80.00 for 450 minutes. Neither carrier has roll over minutes, that is att only
Add to teh fact that you will need to purchase new phones, the phone you have will not work on it

I hate ATT.... I have only been with this subscriber since September and I am stuck in a 2 yr contract!!! every month I have to call and argue about the ridiculous monthly bill and overage charges!!! They are trying to get car payments from each customer... for a phone service.... I am going to cut my losses and go back to my old service provider... I would rather buy out my contract than stay with this company!

Especially when you factor in all the blood pressure medication ATT causes you to buy.
