windows phone nokia lumia 1020

I am very aggravated with this phone! People I text don't receive my text messages unless I reset my phone. If someone calls me and leaves a voicemail I don't know that unless I restart my phone. I took it to at&t and they stated it was an update issue and to go back to factory settings. I did that and still it does this!!! Help! Does anyone else have this problem?
