I purchased the Samsung Focus (very nice phone) on the first day of availability in '10 and upgraded to the amazing Lumia 900 this spring. I am really looking forward to the Lumia 920, Nov 2nd. I am a little dissapointed in the time space between the announcement of the phone and the eventual release date, however, there is a lot that goes on between now and then. I just wish that MS and Nokia could get their marketing department to take a page from Apple and shrink that dead period of time. I am dissapointed that the IP5 will get the jump on WP8.
I am looking forward to the amazing Nokia screen, the wireless chargin, improved processor and tighter integration of social apps into the OS. It looked great during this weeks demos.
I am also curios to see what other WP8 handsets may be released before the 2nd of November, however, I am holding out for the flagship.

I'm on the fence between it and the Samsung ATIV S (bigger screen, thinner body) - I love the HTC Titan screen size, hate the microphone... no more HTC for me ![]()

I really loved HTC in the old Windows mobile days. Had the Tilt, and many more and really hoped for a WP7 superphone from HTC. The Focus was simply a better phone and then HTC chose to not even compete with the Lumia. We'll see what their WP8 showing is like but I am all in on the Lumia 920.

The 920 is far and away the best WP8 device coming out. Had they only included removable storage (microSD), it would be perfect.

Im sold on the Lumia 920. I used my upgrade on getting a Lumia 900, but I will try to muscle AT&T into giving me an early upgrade.

Just muscle your way to an upgrade. I had to do this to get my 900. My original focuus will finally be eligeable for an upgrade in time for the 920 :-) For my 900, still on my Focus contract, I had to call ATT and have them manually allow the upgrade price. This meant that I was unable to purchase a 900 on day one, but I secured one on day 2!

I'll get it... if it's factory unlocked and I can find another carrier to take it to.

THis is where Nokia and MS really fall short. Nokia announces the Lumia 920 and we have to wait two months to purchase a handset. Apple announces their vastly inferior Ip5 and the fanboys can purchase a handset in two days. Once again the Ip5 will get the jump and take the first bite out of the market.
How does MS continually get out cycled?

Only Microsoft is to be blamed. WP8 was supposed to come out in early october, but Microsoft is having a hard time to fix all of the bugs, glitches, etc. Also, one of those problems has something to do with WP8 not working correctly on HTC phones, that is why HTC has not announced their WP8 devices yet. Rumor has it that WP8 should be launched at the end of October or early November.

Not sure if the issue is bugs, I had not heard that, however, the Lumia 920 will be available on the 2nd of November. I just think that MS would have made a killing had it been releaed the Friday after teh announcement (last week). Nokia would have powned Apple.

I think they just hurried up thier announcement to they would be seen before the iphone 5.
I am going to be looking at the Samsung Activ and maybe the 820. I probably would have jumped on the 920 had it included removable storage.

I think I'll be waiting on the next lumia model. I just used my upgrade this year on the the 900. I bought the 800 January of this year, when the 900 was announced, now that I bought the 900 and the 920 is announced 6 months later. I should prolly wait on the lumia 940, 960, 980, or 1000. It should have a WP 8.5, 12-16mp camera, removable memory stick slot by then. It's too much technology for me to keep up with.
I understand your frustration with all of the new generations, however, I think that the 920 sounds like a game changer. Certainly after the IP5 has been announced, it sounds like a quantum difference in tech. I will grab it with my upgrade due after my focus purchase. Bring on Oct 21st!

I am curious as to why Nokia is putting a memory card slot in the mid-priced 820 but not in the high-end 920. The 920 will have enough memory that the slot is not needed as much as in the 820, but I want the ability to add a memory card. I currently carry about 25GB of music on my androlid phone, and I would hate to think I would have to use nearly my whole phone just for the music. I also like to occasionally reformat the memory card and recopy all of my music files, just to be sure it is current, and that would be less convienient if I had to do it using the phone.

I'm with you. Microsoft touted the removable storage feature as a way to easily move files between phone, tablet, pc, etc. The zune app is HORRIBLE when dealing with music. It often copies stuff I don't tell it to copy and I have to manually go through the collection and delete duplicates. I was so looking forward to copying my music and docs from my PC to it so I can transfer files back and forth as Microsoft intended.
I was originally going to pre-order the 920 because it seems to be the end all, be all of Windows Phones... and then I found out about the lack of external storage. I may wait for WP 7.8 for my devices and run that until Nokia releases the NEXT high end device in hopes that they wisen up in the external storage department.

The Zune software is being killed. Microsoft is making a new windows phone sync software. I have never seen Microsoft tout removable storage as a way to easily move files between pc, tablet, phone etc. I have seen them tout the cloud as doing those things, and using Windows 8, I love all of these built in cloud features and if I have my windows phone set to upload my pics to the cloud automatically, I rarely have to sync my phone. Nokia left out external storage from the 920 because making a micro sd card slot would mess with the design of the phone.

the auto-upload is awful. What good is an 8mp camera if it uploads it at tiny sizes with no way to change that? I evetually turned syncing to Skydrive and almost never use Share to Facebook because of that.
I don't see how having a MicroSD slot would mess with the design of the phone. There is space for it physically and they could have included it under the same door as the SIM slot. It was a stupid oversight in my opinion.

Cloud storage is nice, but with the end of unlimited data, it may start causing issues with data overages. I am reluctant to start using it for routine pictures and definitely don't want to use it for my music collection.

The auto upload is awful on WP7, however WP8 will be uploading full res pics to Skydrive.
The Micro SD slot would mess with the design because they are trying to go for a seamless design with as little cuts on the device as possible.

With WP8 uploading full res pics to Skydrive, I can see data caps being an issue. You can keep music on your phone locally or if you have a Nokia windows phone, you can download nokia music mixes for offline use.

Well wifi is always an option. It's only when you are mobile that you'll be using data. Even at 2-5MB per photo, you'd have to upload a snortload of photos to burn thru 2-3GB.

I'm getting it on day 1. Also I think the reason Microsoft is taking so long was to see what Apple had in store and making sure encryption is up to US government specs

I think AT&T will offer something for Lumia 900 owners to get a 920. I was at the Lumia 820/920 NYC event and when I asked the Nokia reps about incentives for Lumia 900 owners, they told me AT&T would be the one to do something like that and that I should ask them. Also, it is rumored that Nokia is going to do profit sharing with the Lumia 920 so carriers get part of the profits from the device. If that is true then AT&T most certainly will have some sort on incentive since they will make money with every device sold as well.
