Hello,
I've read that there will be an "Offical" Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the Samsung Epix from AT&T. Does anyone know where to find more information about this, or when this is scheduled to be release, and when it is, where to download or find it?
Thanks.

There has not been any information released regarding the Epix update, apart from the fact that there will be one before the end of the year. I would suggest that you keep checking on this forum. Once it is released, I am sure it will be posted here.

LOL! As I am sure you remember my posts from the ID1 thread, I was one of the main users of the phone going against the Epix. However, I have a feeling, this update will make this phone the great phone it should have been from day 1. As we have a an official commitment from Microsoft, as opposed to previous update, I would say an update will be released sometime in November. In fact, I read somewhere, that the date is November 5. I just can't remember where I read it.

not to burst your bubble or anything, but im guessing you havent been around for much of at&t's releases? those dates you refer to, even if they were official dates released from the offices of the president of at&t himself are never (ever ever ever ever ever) firm. the wait we had for the wm update for our i607s stands as testimony.
as for wm6.5 making the epix a much better phone, well thats all subjective. i loved my epix when it was running 6.1 after i put some work into it, and i love it now as it runs a cooked wm6.5 rom. im sure however that others will still find reasons to hate it.

I dont think anyone hated the phone. I just believe that it is outrageous that after over a year and the phone's official ROM is still with major bugs and needs work arounds. Glad there is an update coming.

I am starting to wonder if we are really going to get the 6.5 update?
I have noticed that AT&T does not currently offer the Epix on this site anymore....
Is this an indication that they do not plan to expend any more energy on a device that garners nothing but complaints?
Or does that mean that they have ran through the supply of handset running windows 6.1's and are now waiting til the 6.5 ROm is released to restock?
I am hoping that we get the WM 6.5 update because the Epix is basically only halfway through its live cycle as far as cell phones go.

The fact that AT&T does not offer it anymore, does not mean it is not supported. There is an official announcement on Microsoft's website, that the Epix will receive a 6.5 update before the end of the year.

still waiting helplessly.
I have loaded an advanced "leaked" Win6.5 and love it, but one prob that is really bugging me is the MMS will not connect (and therefore send or receive) ...any help on the right settings for this?
i would REALLLY like a real version of 6.5 from samsung soon. I will get a winMo7 phone when available, but that is a year away.

Well, with the event of the New April 2010 release date; I finally had enough of Samsung and ATT's delays and constant disregard for thier customers. I have sold my epix to some other poor sap and moved to a HTC Tilt 2.
I WILL NEVER BUY OR OWN ANOTHER SAMSUNG MOBILE DEVICE FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE.
Good Job Samsung and ATT for having pushed me away from your Samsung products.

Well I guess this is a prime example of "to each his own." I own a Samsung Epix and just recently given a Tilt 2 with WM 6.5 to test out (by my company). I find the Epix is MUCH more responsive and quick with WM 6.1, the trackpad is great, the camera is hands down better, and the keyboard is better than the bulky, mushy one on the Tilt 2. The Epix is lighter and less bulky (I prefer the candybar form factor).
The only advantage I can find for the Tilt 2 is the bigger screen, even with WM 6.5. My plan is to update the Epix to 6.5 when available and continue using it, and probably give the Tilt 2 to my wife or sell it.

I hear ya. I really loved the Epix too. I think basically what has pushed me away from it is that ATT and Samsung just seem so dang unwilling to talk about the phone or the issues or resolutions to the issues. Its like trying to get Blood from a turnip or something. WHY, WHY all the hush hush secrete stuff. I mean come on. We all know the phone very intimately and have stuck it out for this long, the least you could do is talk to us about it. I have emailed samsung support about 5 times and everytime I ask to be refered to a higher up or managment i never receive a reply, ever. Not just once but everytime I try to talk to samsung I get an almost canned response that says absolutely nothing and never a reply back from anyone that should know something. Just bad business.
I was very excited about the 6.5 update for the epix. In fact, I do still have the phone but it is listed for sell on ebay and craigslist. If I dont get any takers I might just keep it tilll the update comes out. Because I love the form factor alot. the mouse is absolutely genius. I am an epix supporter. But I just have a really bad taste for Samsung and ATT for the way they have handled this.

I am with you on that. If you recall, I was pretty involved in the original Epix thread. But as much as that phone had potential, it was just unbearable in every day use. It's hard to know what the real issue with the phone was, but I tend to believe it went past a software issue. I truly believe there was a hardware design issue that was causing some of this.

Hello?
Anyone check the Samsung download page lately?
There's a download dated March 25, 2010, but it says ID1.
What gives?

Samsung is repackaging some old downloads. It does not necessary mean there is any updates in it. It happens recently to Samsung Jack WM6.5 updates (which release last year). Ppl found out Samsung simply unzipped the file and posted the updated link. You can download the 'new' file and do a file comparison with the old ID1 updates (you may need to unzip the old file if it is originally zipped).

Samsung’s official response:
Thank you for your inquiry. The two files that are dated March 25, 2010 are the original ID1 update. The server the ID1 upgrade is hosted on was changed and this changed the date on the file postings, by default.
We sincerely apologize for any confusion this has caused.
Concerning the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Epix, unfortunately, we are unable to speculate when this software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this presents. Please feel free to check back periodically for updates.

Well, I guess I have to be counted in the unhappy Epix user's group now. My screen went bad and they sent me a phone with the ID1 update on it, of course, and now the phone's GPS is as advertised. The devices.exe spikes to 45% - 65% and stays there even after closing google maps or other mapping software and only a reboot will solve that issue.
Also, I can only talk on this handset, aparently, from one spot in my house as I fad out on the other end. I can hear the other party fine but they cannot hear me.
Of course I asked them to send me one without the ID1 update but alas, .....
This one's going back too so I guess I may now be in that endless bad phone loop.

I am actually surprised they still stock them. Did they not offer you a completely different model when you called?

guandalf,
no they didn't and in fact, they thought I asked for another model when talking to warranty on this new POS and they said they could not send me a different make & model. I asked them what we were going to do when this, yet another, new phone came and didn't work right either. They said they might be able to get me something else then. When that happens, I may ask for the fuse at that point because, as we know, the phone won't work correctly.

try asking for a Tilt2. Even though the chances are slim you will get one, it is worth the try.
