Not that uncommon. I had to go to an AT&T store to get another sim card for my out of the box Lumia 920.

The one that came with the phone was bad. Call customer service if the link doesn't help.

I just had the same thing happen with the SIM that came in my out-of-the-box Lumia 920, which is extremely inconvenient because now both phones are completely useless to me until customer service opens! Not terribly impressed with ATT right now.
