green cable and unknow status

Where can I get the green cable from the phone jack to the moderm?

When I click on the green signal icon on the bottom right side for wire less the status says unknown. I do not remember it saying unknown before.

It is a phone cable that is Cat-5e with RJ-11 male ends. I have my old one laying downstairs, but actually took a small length of Cat-5e I had and made a shorter one.

As for the Green Signal Icon on the bottom of the RG if you are talking about that, it is for Wi-Fi Protected setup.

I am just throwing guesses out there, due to your question is not really clear as to what problem you are having.

Where do I get a new Phone cable? The unknown status is on my laptop its the green signal on the botton right side if i take my mouse and point on it i shows SSID,SPEED,SIGNAL,STATUS shows unknown. I don't remember showing unknown before. What should it say next to Status?

You do not need the phone cable for wifi. If you are not connecting to the WiFi signal of the RG, make sure that you are connecting to the correct SSID for it, and entering the correct PassPhrase.

The default SSID & Passphrase are on the label for the RG, as long as you have not made any changes.

These are 2 question  Again where can I find a new green phone cable?????????? This has Nothing to do with wifi for the green cable this is for a PC that I do not have wifi on. All I want to know is where I can get a new cable?

2nd question has nothing to do with 1st question. I have a laptop that showes status unknow on the green signal on the bottom right side yes I can log on the wifi All I want to know is why dose the status showes unknown it never showed unknown before???

First question, what equipment do you have from ATT for your service? Do you have a iNID, or just a RG connected to a phone outlet?

As for wireless, need to know what Operating System, and a picture of what you are stating is showing "Unknown". Usually "Unknown" on Windows is really nothing to worry about as long as you are connecting to a WiFi access point and able to browse the web.

I  have the moderm 3801 I think it is The iNID.

Then you do not need the shielded phone cable. With the iNID, it uses the i38hg for making any changes, but you can use any wireless access point with the iNID for your wifi connection, since the iNID does not have wireless built in.

willamd - A cable that connects a PC to a modem in lieu of wi-fi is a network cable or cat5.

ALL that I need is the green cable that plugs from the phone jack in the wall to the back of the 3801ATT UVERSE modem that is color green on the back of the modem. when I unplung this cable I have no phone service plug it back in I have phone service. I think there is a short in this cable the phone comes in and out when it is pluged in. Why all the question back to me All I want to know is where do I get a NEW cable.I went to walmart,target, office depot. the phone cable that they sold me does not work. I was told by the stores that cable is a uverse cable only and no other one will work. I called uverse was told I need a service call for them to bring me one. I do not need a service call all I would like to know is how to get one.

Again, it is just a shielded phone cable. You can use any phone cable to connect the 3801 to the phone jack, and you will be fine. Just make sure that the one you buy has four pins not two at the ends.

It's not green, but it's RJ11 terminated Cat5e qualified TP cable.  It's not really Cat 5e because of the RJ11 termination, but there you go.  A standard phone cable would work almost as good, especially if it's pretty short.

However, the problem could as easily be the jack you plug the cable into as the cable you're looking to replace.

Yes, as Jeffer & I have both stated, it is a phone cord. I can send you mine that I have laying downstairs at your cost if you wish, or PM Customer Service at http://forums.att.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/tab/compose/note-to-user-id/318276 and they could probably send one or have a tech come by and replace the one if you wish.

The choice is yours. Personally it is easier to set up the trouble ticket if the new cord did not work, due to bad phone jack. One way to find out, is to take the modem to your NID outside and plug it into the Test jack with either the Green cord you have, or a phone cord. Just the two inside pins are used for the phone connection from the Modem to the phone jack.
