I am having the same problem described here:
I have called customer service multiple times over the past six months but the offers in the mail just keep coming. (The latest is addressed to "Valued AT&T Customer". "Be sure to reference priority code 64-6103-0118 when you call".)
I do not have U-verse. I do not want U-verse. I do have AT&T wireless, but if these mailings do not stop, I will cancel it... for myself, my wife, her family, and anyone else who will listen.
There is no other company that keeps sending me mail after I call and ask them to stop. Not one. Is that even legal?
Please tell me how to stop the promotional mailings. Thank you.

"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"

Or simply not worry about, throw away the mail, and spend your time doing something worthwhile.

But some people just like to complain about everything. I get junk in the mail everyday that I don't want. Instead of worrying about it, I throw it away. Problem solved.

It's great to know that, in your world, all the stuff you throw away comes from nowhere and goes to nowhere.
Here in my world -- which happens to be the real world, but please never concern yourself with that -- resources are finite, trash has a cost, and reducing the garbage generated by megacorporations is "doing something worthwhile".
So when companies send me mail I do not want, I call and politely ask them to stop. (Well, the first half-dozen calls are polite, anyway.) And guess what? All of them actually do stop. ALL of them. Except for one.
[Please keep it courteous]
I just want the junk mail to stop.

Paper is basically an infinite resource, but that's beside the point. If you feel getting upset over this is worthwhile, follow the instructions here: http://www.att.com/gen/privacy-policy?pid=22975

Again, it is wonderful that you live in a world where production and transport require no energy, paper does not come from (say) trees, and your mailbox is full of blank pages with no ink on them. And I am happy to hear that your own time is worth zero to you.
Here in this other world, I have been calling AT&T on and off ever since I moved into this apartment in late 2011. Apparently it was previously occupied by people with names like "Salud Kasbar", "Ahmed Nahasapeemapetilon", and "Dong Lelongabong". (I have changed the names slightly, but not as much as you might think.) There must have been half a dozen previous residents who had AT&T service, because all of them continue to receive mail from AT&T.
On any day, I might get one, two, or five identical AT&T offers, variously addressed to "our neighbor", "our valued customer", "Dong Le", etc. Nine times out of ten, I write a slash through the non-existing recipient, write "RTS" on the envelope, and drop it in the outgoing mailbox. Now, most entities receiving bounced mail for three, six, or twelve months decide that maybe the person no longer lives here. I am not sure what AT&T does with returned mail, but as far as I can tell, they remove the content, put it in new envelopes, and send it out again.
One time out of ten, I call one of the half-million phone numbers for AT&T. The conversation typically proceeds something like this.
"AT&T Customer Care; how my I help you?"
"Hi, I am receiving promotional offers and I would like them to stop."
"Sure, I can help you with that. What is your name and address?"
"Well, the name on the label is 'Dong Lelongabong' and the address is XXX"
"Do you have AT&T wireless service?"
"Yes."
"What is your phone number?"
(pause...) "Um, OK, look, I am not actually Mr. Lelongabong. I have no idea what his phone number is."
"Your mail preferences are associated with your account. Without the account number, I am afraid I cannot help you."
That is how some of the conversations go. Others keep asking for my phone number until I give it to them, then say "fixed it for ya!" Others put me on hold for 20 minutes and then say "OK fixed it for ya!" But the mail just won't stop.
That said, I cannot swear I have tried the number your linked at http://www.att.com/gen/privacy-policy?pid=22975. Thank you for that. I will try it and report back in a month or two.

Just toss it and move on with life. There are other things to get more worked up with, than stressing over some mailers. Like I stated before, talk to your postal carrier and tell them that you do not want unsolicited flyers and such from these companies. Also, you can contact Customer Care through a Private Message as already has been stated, and they can put in to remove you from the mailing list.

I will add to this conversation that the USPS now offers saturation mailing, where every address in a region gets a mail piece. Everyone gets it, regardless of your mailing preference.
You would think that the company would like to save themselves the cost of postage, paper and ink for someone who has asked them to stop. OTOH, since you are apparently the fourth person to live at this address in a relatively short period of time, maybe they just expect that you will move out soon and someone new will be reading these mail pieces.

Here we are, two months after my 12th attempt to call and "opt out" of all AT&T mailings. And just yesterday I got another U-verse offer addressed to "Valued AT&T Customer".
They seem to have slowed somewhat, to 1 or 2 per week now. But apparently there is no way to make them stop.
So that's it, then. As soon as my and my wife's contracts are up with AT&T Wireless, we are swtiching to Verizon or T-Mobile or... Well, anybody but AT&T.

I've never seen someone make such a big deal about a few pieces of paper...
