I have had U-verse TV for about 6 months, but no Internet. When U-verse TV was installed, I was given one HD-DVR receiver, one HD receiver (no DVR), and what appears to be some sort of router. It seems that AT&T utilizes a router to distribute the signal to both of my receivers.
I would ASSUME, therefore, that this same router would be used to deliver internet content, if I was an internet subscriber (the Internet jack in the back of the router, is covered with tape).
Today I logged into the U-verse billing site to price out the addition of Internet to my account. I was amazed to see that AT&T wants to charge me a $149.99 installation fee for addition of Internet services. I would think that no site visit is required, and no additional equipment is required! This should be as simple as flipping a switch.
Before I call into AT&T and challenge this, I'd like your thoughts. I can say clearly that there's no way I will expand my bundle to Internet so long as this $149.99 one time fee is part of the deal.

Call customer service at the number in my sig and you should be able to have this install fee waived. If you reach a CS rep who is unwilling to waive this fee call another until you find one who will.
You may be charged $55 for a truck roll charge but this includes providing a data cable from the RG (residential gateway router/modem) to your PC along with setup.
You're internet install should be a snap since you already have the RG in place.
Good luck. ![]()

Thanks for the reply!
I will call the number. It would be a waste of their time and my money to send out a rep. I am pretty sure I know how to plug a cable from the gateway to my computer! LOL

Totally agree and super easy job. The data/networking cable used is Cat5E and not a regular phone jack cable. Maybe you would luck out and have them send you one. If not the below link has high quality cables at real low prices. Many local stores also carry these cables but don't pay a bunch.

AT&T has DSL self install but this is different than AT&T U-verse. Besides you already have the RG/modem.

Good luck trying have them allow a self install w/U-verse and have a feeling they may require a tech come out.
Let us know how it turns out.

Agreed. I have a 14' Cat5e cable from this company connecting my RG to my computer and have had no problems. The only "problem" might be the shipping cost may seem excessive since you're only getting one cable; however, they also sell HDMI cables, digital audio cables, and component cable sets (usually much cheaper than you can get them from, say, Best Buy), so you might want to pick up some of those as well.
