I have run across an isssue several times where I am recording a channel and watching it while recording then switch to the channel to view the live broadcast and it is a black screen.
An example would be last night. I was recording the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway on Fox. I was watching the recording while it was recording. It was a 4 hour recording from 6pm tp 10pm CST. The recording ended at 10pm (I had already cought up to the end) and I went to erase and then wanted to switch to the same channel it was recording which is 1029 to watch the post race show. I press guide and arrowed down to 1029, hit ok, and it is just a black screen. The SD counterpart works fine just not the HD version. The only way to get this channel back is to re-boot the STB. I did not try to go to the DVR to see if it would show the channel.
This is frustrating because lets say the recording stops and the race has gone over the alloted time so there might be 10 laps to go, a green, white, checker, or whatever and I can't get to the darn channel to finsh watching the race.![]()
I have only been able to duplicate this with NASCAR races since this is about the only time I do something like this. Maybe caused by the length of the recording? Any ideas? I know a re-boot of the system won't help since I have seen this behavior several times over the years.

BeeBeeSA - I think that this is the fairly common black screen problem. I have experienced it many times. It does seem to occur frequently when going from watching a recording to live. It happens even when the recording is not the same as the live channel.
I get it on channel 1012 - CBS NY. My theory on it occurring for this one case is that it is the scenario I do most often.
As you say, the SD channel works. I find that a second STB works on HD. This nay not help you because the second TV is in another room. MIne is in the same room to be able to watch sports and fill commercials with recorded shows, as well as watch TV while participating in the U-verse forum.
Is there any evidence of this on component? I was thinking it may be an HDMI glitch. I got it the other day switching fro HDMI2 (computer) to HDMI1 (STB). Maybe I should try component. Could be it goes to a condition thinking it needs to copy protect.

I had the same problem trying to switch from watching Nascar recording to watching it live. The screen was black using HDMI or component. I get this issue mostly on sports channels, ESPN, FSMW and etc.

BeeBee, I could watch 1002 here in metro Detroit while the race was recording on 1002, but as soon as I ended the recording when it went into the local news, I switched to 1002, it was black.
I could as usual record the black channel and it would view on my only TV connected to the DVR. This only occurs on a recording of multiple hours and only thing TS can say is reboot, totally unacceptable!
By the way, I think the best post-race show is Speed's Nascar Victory Lane on 1652.
Amazing, Jeff Gordon coming from 34th to 4th and still coming towards Greg Biffle during the closing laps on a 190 mph speedway, 1 more caution and he would've been right up there. ![]()

Okay....Thanks all. At least I know it's not just me having the issue or something I have not done correctly.
